Summary: a book you'll hug to yourself
Review: talk about the creme de la creme! I have read literally thousands of books, and purchased very few. This would be one for purchasing. High intellect for the arts in an era of brain -numbed sex -obsessed cyber space warriors is a unique problem expressed beautifully by this author.

It is a modern twist on a story as old as mozart: the highly intelligent's ostracism in a society obsessed with beer, sex and low class. This clear blue gem is unique in its presentantion from a harvard grad's point of view (precocious of coufse) and the hard-top -describe sensitivity she feels on all the harsh basic levels of living: Sex, intimacy, and just plain getting out of bed into a world which keeps disappointing with its lack of intelligence and blatant crudeness! Ever felt like you are the golden princess shining with brilliance and no one could relate to your reading 300 plus-page novels at age 7? Well, I did, and so did our cyncial yet sweet and highly intelligent heroine, Carrie. And if youve spent saturday nights looking up dictionary definitions while others are out drinking and having lust, you will become immersed also in this sad witty look at a 19th century woman trapped in a harsh, dimwitted culture. AMEN!

Summary: great book!
Review: This book was excellent! Carrie has a lot of wit and sarcasm to keep you laughing, but offers a lot of philosophical information to think about. I definetly recommend you read this book.

Summary: Good book!
Review: I think this book adds good variety to the red dress ink series. The chic-lit books are very entertaining and satisfying in their own ways. But Carrie Pilby adds depth and more reality to the series. Carrie is being portraited as a three dimentional character as opposed to a sterotyped figure head. Part of it may be due to her solitare nature and lack of contact with other people. The author can focus her energy in talking about just her. Most of the other characters in the book are being over looked. (think the movie: Cast Away)

What I really liked about the book is how Carrie can have flaws but still very likable. The author really stick to one of the themes where things/characters are not black-and-white always. I do not get the sense that any character is the "good guy" or "bad guy" in the story. They all had their strengths and weaknesses.

What I don't like about the novel are some of the technical details though minor. For instance, Pilby's sense of logic is weak for a philosophy major. Philosophy is one discipline that gives a person ability to understand and make sense of different ideas and view points. In addition, knowledge does not equal intelligence. Carrie strikes me as an information junkie but without much real amazing insights into matters. This is also evident in the kind of things she thinks about. Maybe the author's intent is to show that she is not as intelligent as she believes. Since this book is first person narration, we will not know.

Overall, I liked the emontional and situational portrail of the character and the plot. I wish there are less of the detailed environmental description and the parts where Carrie is showing off her skills in dictionary. Those became redundent towards the end of the novel.

Summary: A Witty and Charming Read!!
Review: This book was lent to me by a friend after I had made various complaints that I could not find any good books to read.Needless to say, the second my eye caught the first word in the novel, I was hooked.
The authors introduction goes into great detail to describe why Carrie Pilby refuses to tell people what videos she rents. (Why? According to Carrie, one day she might want to rent something embarrasing, so if she shows friends what she currently rents but at a future time refuses to show them what she has rented they will automatically know that something is up.) This example is one of the many witty topics presented to the reader in Carrie Pilby.
This book was hysterically funny and I would certainly recommend it to any person looking for a fun and uplifting read.

Summary: For Glamour magazine readers
Review: This is the story of a gifted young woman who has nothing to do. She sleeps, mostly, and once a week pulls herself out of bed to visit her therapist. We know she gifted because she tells us so, ad nauseum, but there is little evidence of her giftedness in her thought processes. She is really quite dull. So, she follows her therapist's 5-point-plan to enhance her social life and it more or less works, and she ends up in bed with exactly the man we knew she would from the beginning. Not recommended.
I feel this author has promise and can do better than this.

Summary: 1ST HALF - 5 STARS, 2ND HALF - 1 STAR
Review: This book starts as an absolute delight - funny, witty and smart. But towards the second half of the book it loses it. I just couldn't get rid of an impression that the author simply lost any interest and was rushing it to publisher to get paid. The last 50 pages or so are incredibly boring and meaningless, which spoils the whole experience.

Summary: Very, very good book...
Review: I was kind of skeptical when I read the synopsis. I didn't know if I could get into the book. I was sadly mistaken. I couldn't put this book down. I was losing sleep until I finished. The main character is so strange it's funny. I would really recommend this book. It's not like all the other books I read. Very different, very good read. Pick it up and read, I promise you'll like it.

Summary: BEST READ IN A LONG TIME
Review: This book is wonderful! I've read a ton of books lately that were rather heavy reads...or just seemed to have the same ole' tune. Carrie Pilby is a relaxing read, and absolutely hillarious. I laughed my way through the whole book. Absolutely refreshing! It made me laugh, it made me think, it made me say, "I'm not the only one that thinks that," and it made me cry. This book has it all, but presents itself in a very fun and vibrant way. It get's you thinking "outside-the-box" so to speak...and leaves you feeling like you danced in the rain! Can't wait to see what Lissner has in store next!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: GENIUS!!!!
Review: This book was so refreshing and insightful- it amazed me that this was picked up by Red Dress Ink! Unlike their normal fluff, this book had depth and a character with real problems and real feelings. Lissner did a beautiful job of expressing the character's struggles. I couldn't put it down.

Summary: It reminded me of me
Review: This book is scaringly on target. I have experienced many of the same problems with the world. Although it bored me in the beginning, after the first chapter or so I really got into it and it was hard to put down. I highly recommend this book to all the social misfits, over achievers, and those who just don't want to get out of bed and face the world. It seems to put things in perspective.
