Summary: History Comes Alive
Review: Ms. Morton has woven a story that has incorporated the facts of the Civil War in a very readible and understandable fashion. Her book has given me a much greater appreciation of the issues and hardships of the war.

Summary: Remember this is fiction
Review: People knowledgeable of the Civil War will recognize the latitude the author has taken with facts in creating her quaint romantic novel. But those for whom their only interest in history is through fiction may be under the impression that this is a true story, which it is not.

Summary: This is one to read and re-read!
Review: Seldom is a book able to make me laugh out loud, or bring tears to my eyes.

Virginia Morton has made the characters so real and alive that I feel I know them. Her lucid descriptions of Virginia's Piedmont region made me feel like I was there, but the descriptions never become so wordy as to get in the way.

This book is going to make a GREAT movie: the story is just too good NOT to become a movie.

Summary: Marching Through Culpeper
Review: The best novel I have read in many years. It's better than "Gone with the Wind". It's a style similar to Allan W. Eckert. Follows the facts as I have read them in other books. A masterpiece. The only book in my life that I read and then read again !! A must for every household and especially anyone interested in our history of the Civil War.

Summary: Marching Through Culpeper
Review: This book has been carefully researched by the author for it's accuracy and attention to detail. Although it is meant to be a work of fiction, I found the stories of the players and the battles to be right on target as to the historical events as they happened. Virginia B Morton has certainly captured the spirit of the times of the civil war in the vicinity of Culpeper. I think that this book sheds a different, if not new, light on the times around 1865.
I found this book to be entertaining and hard to put down.

Summary: History Comes Alive
Review: This book is more than just "a fun read." It is packed with thrills and suspense, and its characters come alive, evoking the reader's emotional reaction . What makes it excellent, however, is the careful research that enabled the author to weave important historical figures and events seamlessly into the story.

Virginia Beard Morton has given us considerable insight into the horrors of the Civil War and indeed of wars in general. We also find in this novel a clear exposition of southerners' attitude toward their lost cause, an attitude which has not yet been completely extinguished.

Anyone who wants to be entertained while learning a great deal about an important period in American history should read this book.

Summary: An absorbing Civil War/romantic Tale
Review: This is a must-read for all civil war buffs. Virginia Morton has created memorable characters--real and fictional--who catch your attention and make you want to know more about them when the book ends. Even if you are not interested in the Civil War the stories of hardship, romance, life in the mid-1800's, are moving and intersting.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A fantastic piece of historical fiction
Review: This is a wonderfully entertaining read, a blending of very carefully researched historical facts with fast paced action and romance. While most historical fiction of this period gives you the northern point of view (the victor writes the history books), it gives one valuable insight into the southern view point during this truly interesting and important time in American history. With the careful attention to detail on troop movements, chronicles of military and civilian life, it is a must read for any civil war enthusiast.

This book is an eye opener on the less "politically correct" and less well-known motivations for the civil war and gives insight into the term "the war of northern aggression".

I would recommend this book to everyone.

Summary: Great Dialogue!!
Review: Virginia Morton has made these charachters come to life. They actually speak just like the Culpeper, VA natives. I especially liked the dialogue. It's a wonderful historical account that will capture your mind and heart.
