Summary: Doesn't Live Up
Review: Jewell's debut book Ralph's Party was a stunner... one of my favourite books. I had expected Thirty-Nothing to stun me too, but it didn't live up. I know it might be horrible of me to compare it to Ralph's Party, but there are definite similiarities that I just can't shake off.

The plot of 30nothing turns out to be pretty predictable, slightly worn. It's a pleasure to read, but it's nothing engaging, or worth a lot of commitment. Read it when you're not in the mood to throw yourself into a book.

Summary: Predictable, low plot, trite
Review: I typically enjoy fun, funny books and revel in pop culture...which is what I thought, by the book's jacket, that I was getting when purchasing Thirty Nothing". (In other words, I don't have to have an intellectual read) However, after a few pages I was not only quite sure how the book would end, with not much drama in the interim pages, but wondered if it was written by a young teen. (no offense to teen writers...it just seemed it was for a young audience wanting simple sentences and simple characters--with no plot beckoning you to pick up the book and continue reading after you have put it down, or to surprise you)Quite frankly, if it wasn't for the sex and the drugs, I would have mistaken it for one of my kid's books. I guess in a word I would have to define it as trite. Predictable. Simple character development and sentences. I have been reading a book a week and I just have to say that is the worst this year. And it takes little to please me! I am not sure how it could be defined as funny.

Summary: Witty and romantic
Review: This book was awesome. Funny all the way through, keeping you on the edge, waiting for the romance to begin. I could not put it down. Digby and Nadie will warm your heart and make you laugh. I recommend this book to all who love british comedies as I do. I can absolutely see this movie on the big screen starring Julia Roberts and Hugg Grant.

Summary: enjoyable read
Review: Dee and Dig have been friends since grade school, but their wires keep getting crossed when it comes to something more. Enter Delilah, the beautiful, centered woman we all love to hate and the catalyst for some soul-searching on both Dee and Dig's part.

A fun read, though I got a little impatient with the last few chapters (you know what's going to happen, so it's like get on with it already!), but Jewell's wry descriptions of drinking, models, and especially Delilah kept me into the book. I read the whole thing on a rainy Sunday, even though I really should have been studying.

Summary: A fun and light summer read
Review: I read Thirtynothing right after finishing Ralph's Party, both of which I enjoyed. If you're a fan of the vastly popular single gal in London genre galloping on the heels of the Bridget Jones sucess, then you're sure to enjoy Thirtynothing. The novel features a loveable cast of characters, fun and clever writing, and even a bit of mystery. This is a perfect book to take along to the beach this summer, or for a bit of relaxing weekend reading. Also recommended is Marian Keyes.

Summary: A jolly good time!
Review: Thirty Nothing is a fun romp through the city of London with the main characters, Dig and Nadine. They're a wacky duo who have been friends forever. They've reached the age of thirty and realize that they have some commitment issues and they really need to sort out their lives. Lisa Jewell takes the characters from one zany episode to the next. Delilah and Phil, the first loves from Dig and Nadine's past, are also thrown in for comedic effect and place everybody involved in some very funny and touching moments. As the reader, we know that Dig and Deen are meant for each other, but the journey that we get to see them on makes for some very funny reading. The ending is how it should be.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and it had some laugh out loud moments. If you're looking for a comedy, something to take you away from the mundane in your life, then this is the book you need. Laughter is the best medicine.

Summary: predictable but wonderful read
Review: I sort of knew what was going to happen eventually, but most love stories are predictable..it did have some surprises on the way...I did enjoy this book...I recommend it.

Summary: a good fun read
Review: I picked up this book while in a black mood. I started reading it, and was immediately sucked in. I even did something I can't recall ever having done before: reading the last few pages before I finished the book. I just had to know if it all worked out. It's a romantic comedy, so of course it worked out. But I still had to know.

Summary: This book is something else!!!
Review: Did you ever wake up on your 30th birthday and think "Man, I better get it togehter?". Well that is what happens to Dig and Deen in this warm, witty, touching and funny endeavor by Lisa Jewell.

Dig and his best friend Nadine have each reached that magic age and realize they have been loooking for love in all of the worng places when the obvious is staring in front of them. How they come to grips with this realization is the crux of this book.

Had this been a simple story of getting love, losing love and finding love, it would have still have made for an interesting novel. However, the journey that Dig and Deen take to get to this realization is what makes this story unique. Every time I thought I had the plot figured out, Lisa would throw another curve at me and set the story off in another direction. And that it what kept it interesting for me. I couldn't wait to see what new wrinkle she would come up with, which made it very hard to put the book down.

As one who didn't get it together until I was long past 30 (sone say I still haven't), this book related very personally to me. It also made me realize the folly of going back to failed relationships. Sometimes when we are alone, we think back to this one relationship we thought was great. We run back to it, not realizing that we had an unrealistic view of that relationship. And we are disappointed again when history repeats itself. "Thirtynothing" convinced me to stay away from those long past poisonous relationships and to focus on the future.

Most people will be able to see at least a little of themselves in Dig, Nadine, Delilah and Phil, the main protagoinists. If you are not afraid of looking into a mirror, "Thirtynothing" is for you. And if you are a fan of Helen Fielding and Nick Hornby, you will love it even more.

Summary: A Good Story
Review: I found Thirtynothing to be a good story in search of a little dramatic tension. While I enjoyed reading it, I found at times that there was nothing to propel me on, nothing to keep me up late at night reading. But that's my major complaint about the book. Otherwise, it's an enjoyable story that, although you can pretty much tell where the story will ultimately go if you are a fan of romantic comedies, takes all sorts of unexpected turns and is filled with some interesting characters. While not quite as good as Ralph's Party, it is still an enjoyable, quick, light and sometimes funny read.
