Rating: Summary: Fluffy Review: I picked this one up at the library because I needed something light to read after my finals. And light is exactly what I got. I won't get into a summary here as enough reviewers have done that already. I will agree with what another reviewer said-- using rape as a plot point in this book was just...wrong. It was painfully obvious right from the beginning that Dig and Nadine would end up together....and it almost wasn't necessary to read the middle part of the book. I found myself skimming some parts, just knowing that Dig's love for Delilah wouldn't go anywhere, and knowing that he would eventually realize that he loved Nadine. Not a bad read, if you're looking for something light.
Rating: Summary: Pretty dumb Review: Dig and Nadine are great characters -- people I'd want as friends -- but boy, the plot is silly. I also found it a bit galling that a book this fluffy would use a rape as a plot point. And, as other reviewers have said, you can tell what's going to happen at the end just by reading the cover. If you like contemporary British fiction you're way better off with Nick Hornby.
Rating: Summary: Mixed Feelings Review: I liked the overall story, but felt it was a bit too British. There were so many references to London neighborhoods, cuisine, and slang, it was sometimes distracting to what turned out to be a nice story. I have been reading a lot of this type of book, and this has been the only one I found so peppered with references to the London lifestyle it became distracting. I'm sure it won;t bother everyone, but it did lessen my overall interest in the story.
Rating: Summary: I LOVED IT Review: After reading the other reviews..there is no need for me to discuss what happens in the book...but I do want to say...I absolutely loved this book. I too read it on the subway in NYC to help the commute go faster from NJ...I only lasted 4 rides. I ended up reading the whole thing in one sitting when I got home! I think that about says it...don't you? :)
Rating: Summary: Fun Read Review: I read this book in one sitting while on honeymoon. It was such a fun, uplifting, humorous book. While it is not an entirely new theme -- thirty somethings (well in this case thirty-nothings) looking for love and fulfillment -- Lisa Jewell did a great job of being unique and interesting in her own right. The characters are likeable and easily identified with, and I found myself laughing with them, and wanting all of them to be happy and to find what they were looking for. It is a predictable book, but one that I found myself wanting to go exactly as planned. It is the perfect light and uplifting book for anyone in the mood for a few laughs and a happy ending. Satisfying and fun. It is a book about friendship, love and relationships, and about how sometimes what we are looking for is right there, if only we open our eyes.
Rating: Summary: such a great book Review: even though i am no where near thirty, i can definitley relate to the main characters of this book. i was expecting the book to be completley different, but was very delighted when i read it. The story takes place in present day, but has flashbacks in the lives of dig, and nadine. we get to see how their friendship started and how it fell and then soared. it is told in third person, so you know the way that both dig and deen are feeling. it's a great book and i am glad that i read it.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down! Review: This book is full of enticing characters living in an enticing world that gets zanier and funnier as you go along. It has been a while since I have read such a good, solid book and I would have to say that this is one of the best books I've read all year. I can't wait to read "Ralph's Party"!
Rating: Summary: Turning Thirty Review: It's has a taste of When Harry Met Sally. The characters are so real that you did not want the story to end when you are finished with the book. A must read....very enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: Very engrossing Review: I am - very late in the day - starting to read the wave of British chick lit novels available to us here in the States, and I found this a gripping read. Yes, it's obvious that Dig and Deen will end up together - but I never guessed how. I thought the character of Delilah with her secret was very well written, and I loved the description of Deen's terrible ex, Phil. I thought this was a great read. Also recommended 'Making Minty Malone' by Isabel Wolf.
Rating: Summary: So-So Review: I was disappointed by this book because there was no mystery to how it would end. It was formulaic and run-of-the-mill. I know the premise of the book was basically spelled out in the reviews but it was not as funny or creative as I thought it would be. Even if you're looking for light fare, this book is silly.
