Rating: Summary: More than just chick lit Review: This being my first novel by Lisa Jewell I was uncertain as to what to expect. I had heard mixed reviews on some of her other books, but I was willing to give her a try. And I can't tell you how glad I am that I did. Thirtynothing was a delight-- well-written, great characters, wonderful plot development, a true gift of a book, particularly when I expected much less. I was expecting to pick up yet another chick lit book to flip through quickly, but this had much more. A truly different take on the Brit Chick lit novel, Lisa brings in the male perspective-- and not just for a brief line or two, about 1/2 of the novel is written from the perspective of Dig, a sweet but clueless bloke. The storyline in this book is excellent--- the plot twists and turns and keeps you guessing. The writing is fantastic, and at times I was surprised by how good the writing was. If you haven't already read anything by Lisa Jewell I would recommend getting started. If you have and you are looking for another treat, pick this one up, you won't be disappointed. 2 Oct 02
Rating: Summary: Not just Chick Lit Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I really enjoyed seeing how "communications" can easily get crossed and people that are close can loose touch due to the smallest understanding, especially when there is a boyfriend/girlfriend in the picture. This is the story about 2 best friends who can't seem to date people that they will ever have a future with. Then along comes Dig's first love back into the picture and it is like Nadine is invisible again. So what does she do? She calls her "first love". But, are either what they really seem? Add a dog and a couple of misunderstandings and you will get a fun filled but heart felt book, with well written and well developed characters.
Rating: Summary: Good writing-ludicrous plot Review: Lisa Jewell is a very good writer, but the premise and the execution of this story is just dumb. The background stories of Dig's and Nadine's friendship and Delilah's troubled past are credible. However, the path of their two-week romantic realization of love after ten years of friendship is utterly unbelieveable. Plus, while Dig's character is fleshed out, Nadine's character feels unappealingly spliced together.

Rating: Summary: If you're an incurable romantic... Review: ...hitting thirtynothing, this is for you. Those nights when you're wondering why Mary-Jane, or Sam-the-boy-next-door, is still next door, and not next to you in bed - you're not alone. Read this book, laugh, cry, get your hopes up, then dashed, then resurrected in a blaze of recognition of your *real* lifelong heart's desire.
Rating: Summary: Funny modern romance Review: Nadine and Dig are best friends who are perfect for each other, but unfortunately, their romantic timing has never worked out. As Dig turns 30, it looks like this finally might change, but then Delilah, Dig's high school girlfriend, suddenly reappears, and all of the problems she caused for Dig and Nadine in high school resurface. What follows is the usual story of miscommunication and missed chances, but of course, there's also the usual happy ending. Although the general plot is familiar, there are some surprises, particularly with respect to the character of Delilah. In addition, author Jewell writes with both humor and warmth, which keeps the story interesting (her next book, One Hit Wonder, is even better). Overall, a good light read if you enjoy reading about the mishaps of modern romance.
Rating: Summary: not worth the money.. Review: The plot is almost entirely predictable, the parts of the plot that aren't predictable are just ridiculous. The characters are annoying, if not totally unrealistic. The story is saccharine sweet and offers not even a morsel of wit to top it off!
Rating: Summary: Thirty Nothing is really something! Review: Although this is a predictable 'chick-lit' type of novel; (its 4 star rating is because of the predictability of the book) it's a very pleasing & well written one. Thirty Nothing was extremely readable and I found myself reading until 3am so that I could finish the book in 2 days, at which point I was sad the book ended. You will devour this novel because the characters are very well formed and the plot is a fantastic voyage. Many readers will be able to relate to the two main characters' struggles with life & the path to true love in their 30th year on the earth. Two happy thumbs up from this reviewer, enjoy!
Rating: Summary: not her best book Review: Well, I am a huge Jewell fan, and started with her best book first, which is the newest one, Friend of the Family, which is just wonderful. Then I read Ralph's Party, which was also excellent, especially for a first book. One Hit Wonder was a little different, with lots of flashbacks, and a bit of mystery, and then came this one, thirtynothing. This is just not a very good book. As a few others have mentioned, I also skimmed pages of unnecessary stuff to get to the story, since you knew exactly where it was headed, which is okay. What I didn't like were all the annoying flashbacks, there were just too many of them. Also, I had a really hard time with the fact that they just didn't get together earlier when it made perfect sense too....that was just completely unbelieveable to me. I also thought the Rape was a bit over the top. I also agree with someone else who said this is a retread of Ralph's Party in many ways. Don't they serve anything else but Curry? Don't get me wrong, this is pleasant enough, harmless fluff, but just not in the same league as her other stories.
Rating: Summary: fabulous Review: I loved this book. I have read her other books and this remains my favorite. Like has been already said, you can predict the ending fairly easily. But that is par for the course in romantic comedy. This book was fun, a quick read and entirely enjoyable. I got very caught up in the lives of each of these characters and rooting for Dig and Nadine to finally get it together and find each other. Lisa Jewell has a knack for getting you into the heads of the characters and being able to feel their pain and happiness. I found myself grinning ear to ear at the end. My only complaint would be the epilogue. It was too neat in my opinion. But aside from those 4 or so pages, the book was fantastic.
