Summary: Wow! A winner!
Review: Incredible. I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed this book. Fast-paced, suspenseful, romantic--absolutely what I have been looking for! The last few chapters had me on tenterhooks. And--bonus!-- the vampire, Ethan, was so sexy! I really enjoyed how his feelings toward Kerry were kept a mystery till toward the end--it kept me guessing. I hope to find other books as good as this one from Ms. Vande Velde!

Review: Companions of the Night is by far my absolute most favorite book. I love how it'll really get you going with suspense. I love the character Kerry as she finds herself leaving her life in the hands of her own enemy after actually saving his life. Ethan, the enemy, is a vampire whom Kerry saved but didn't realize who or what he was. When he took her home that night she discovered righting on the wall "Vampire, we have your family" Kerry freaked and ran after Ethan. What she didn't realize is that he was a vampire. After the truth comes out he says he'll help her only because she saved his life. They go to on of his friends house, Regina's, and discover she had been killed by the sunlight. Ethan and Kerry begin there journy after he came close to taking her life that night. As they discover the truth about one another and how life really is Kerry desides not to fall in love with his looks and that he's the enemy, but when he doesn't tell her her family's safe and sends her to lure the Vampire hunter to his house Kerry doesn't know who to believe and follows the hunter. As the hunter shoots Ethan with a gun Kerry realizes her feelings for, Ethan, but after saving Ethan from the hunter can she save him from the sunlight....

Summary: Companions of the Night
Review: Kerry Norwicki is a sixteen-year-old girl with a bit of a problem: it's eleven o'clock at night, she still has 50 pages of a book that needs to be finished for a quiz tomorrow and her four-year-old brother Ian has just come into her room asking her to go down to the laundrymat where he left Footy, his stuffed koala bear. Kerry cannot bare seeing her brother cry, so she drives down to the laundrymat and retrieves Footy. Just when she's about to leave - the owner was out, so there was no one else there - a couple men come in dragging a young man who is tied-up and bloody. The men accuse Ethan Bryne - the young man - of being a vampire and are questioning if Kerry is one, too.
The only thing I hated about this book was that ending - like all of VVV's books that I have read - left TOO much to the imagination. All in all, this is one of my favorite books of all time. I pray and wait that there will some day be a sequel.

Summary: I loved this book!
Review: This book is my favorite vampire book...I love the romance intwined the the mystery, horror, etc. It's fantastic. I would have to say that the ending was somewhat disappointing, but hey, it left a lot of room for a sequel, didn't it? I hope the author thinks so too. ^_^ I highly recommend this book...you'll fall in love with the characters and the story as well. GET IT!!!

Summary: A Frightening Novel
Review: A robust and frightening young adult novel. Companions of the Night is to vampires what The Outsiders is to teen gangs. Vivian Vande Velde writes a terrifying novel that probes at adolescents, family, decisions and choices.

Out at night on only a learner permit, Kerry plans to retrieve her younger brother's favorite stuffed animal from the laundry mat. Since their mother left them, Kerry feels responsible to take care of her brother and is willing to accept consequences if caught.

What Kerry is not ready for is the chaotic scene that rushes in on her as she gathers the animal out from under a table. A tied up boy, Ethan, is about to be killed by the owners of the laundry mat. Accept for Ethan, no one is thrilled to see Kerry. However, knowing she is there changes nothing. The men are crazy, claiming Ethan is a vampire and at dawn, even Kerry will understand the truth.

In rescuing Ethan, she puts her father and brother in jeopardy. The vampire hunters are convinced that Kerry is of the living dead as well and have taken her family as prisoners. Kerry knows she must do whatever it takes, even to continue helping Ethan ... who is a vampire ... if that will ensure her family's safety.

From the opening scene until the climactic ending, Companions of the Night is a wild ride. Up and down. Truth and lies. Vivian Vande Velde knows how to build up tension and suspense. She knows how to deliver. Complex characters, believable dialogue, tight, harrowing chapters ... I look forward to reading more by this author.

Summary: Good First step
Review: This book is a good first step in reading Vampires novels. If this is one of the first ones you've read then it works really well. I love the characters and the way the plot twists.

Summary: WAY different but good!!
Review: This book was way different than any vampire book I had ever read. It blew my mind. Kerri was so different from any of the other girls in other vampire books. She was careless (about what she said) and she was AFRAID, which to me seems rare in most books. The end (which I won't give away) pretty much shocked me. This book was truely amazing AND beautiful. I recomend it along with "The Silver Kiss", "Blood and Chocolate" both by Annette Curtis Klause, "Look For Me By Moonlight" by Mary Downing Hahn, and Amelia Atwater-Rhodes's books.

Summary: Companions of the Night Review
Review: "Companions of the Night," being the first book I read immediately after Shakespeare's "Macbeth" had a tough act to follow. This book was said to have been adventurous, daring, and suspenseful. I think it did a great job of doing this and compared well with Macbeth. The main character, Kerry, showed that doing the right thing is not always the best thing. I liked that Valde vividly described every scene as to make the reader seem as they were actually there. The suspense was grappling from the start and the action was fast moving.
I most identified with Ethan because he uses his power to get what he wanted. I liked his trickery and his elusive personality. Anyone that likes adventure and suspense should read this good old vampire story.
