Rating: Summary: a great place to start Review: i bought this cookbook in junior high and i have loved it since. evelyn raab wrote the recipes in a way so that they weren't intimidating for a beginning cook. in fact it's much like receiving advice on cooking from a trusted friend. she wants you to succeed and writes in a way that makes you feel like you really can. it helped me get started with my cooking and four years later i'm still using it regularly. i highly recommend this book whether you're just starting or you've already amassed a large collection of cookbooks. no collection would be truly complete without this one.
Rating: Summary: George Walker - Illustrator of Clueless In the Kitchen Review: I had great fun illustrating this book with the critical eye of my 13 year old son Dylan over my shoulder. When I gave him a copy of the book ......you're not going to believe this.....he read it....and then....made the best stir fry I've had in some time. He wasn't always such a good cook....he use to just open cans and eat cereal. Now he makes fondu, shrimp salads and more from scratch. Wow!
Rating: Summary: My 2 copies stolen by my daughters! Review: I had my first copy taken by my daughter when she married and then the second copy taken by my other daughter when she moved off to college. I love to cook (as do my daughters) and have quite a cookbook collection, but this is the best basic cookbook I had - I am ordering another one for myself today.

Rating: Summary: you can't go wrong with this one Review: I'm going to be 16 very soon, and this book is just perfect. I can impress my family with delicous meals, and it's all because of this book. The recipes are easy to follow, and easy to make. It's also pretty funny in some parts. This book inspired me to get off my butt and make a meal. This cook book is fantastic.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding book for anyone 13-30 Review: I'm just an average thirtysomething, juggling a career, social life, and mad video game habit. Cooking isn't all that high on my list of priorities, but eating out 5-8 times a week is getting boring and expensive. This book is absolutely perfect if you're like me. The recipes are easy to follow, relatively quick to make, and use inexpensive everyday ingredients. Don't let the simplicity of the recipes fool you, though, the food tastes fantastic! There's a good amount of pictures and charts to help you with things like how to slice every kind of vegetable, carving poultry, and demystifying how to use different cuts of beef. I found this book to be an absolute lifesaver and has made me less intimidated about trying new things in the kitchen or tackling some gnarly hardcore recipe. Although this book appears to be geared towards mothers who will pack this book off with their sons/daughters going off to college, I would highly recommend it to anyone who's just starting out in learning culinary skills, or like me, someone who just wants some simple, easy, great tasting food!
Rating: Summary: So Much Fun Review: One of my best friends and I love this book. We love to bake, and this book is so great. It is so much fun to read it and to cook with it. I am going to buy myself one today!
Rating: Summary: Teens? Try College + ! Review: This book IS fantastic! My best friend brought it over to my house and together we created a fantastic, elaborate cheesecake -- from scratch! I can make frittatas and burritos, soups and salads. This is a great cookbook for people of ANY age. We're both college seniors and love to cook, and this book is a way to make it all fun for others.
Rating: Summary: A fun, informative book Review: This is a great book that manages to convey lots of information in a humorous, fun-to-read way. I bought it for my teenager, who hates to cook! -- Deborah Hopkinson, author, FANNIE IN THE KITCHEN
Rating: Summary: Simple yet delicious receipes Review: This is a perfect book for anyone just starting out on their own. I bought it when I moved into my first apartment and it provided wonderful and tasty receipes that don't take a lot of time or skill to make. The author also provides some witty remarks with each recipe and makes the book fun to read as well as easy to follow. Recipes range from how to make a chocolate torte or roast a turkey to instructions on how to boil water. This book is full of useful meal ideas put forward in a light-hearted manner. A must-have for any newcomer to the kitchen.
