Rating: Summary: A Great Starting Book for Anyone Review: Maneesh Sethi's "Game Programming for Teens" is a great book for anyone, not just "teens", looking to get an introductory course to the large and promising career of game programming. The fact that the book is written by a high school student is awesome because he can best identify with younger readers while adding bits of humor to get you through the tougher parts. The included CD contains the demo for "Blitz Basic 2D" among other programs that can be useful in the creation of simple 2D games. It also contains the source code from the book which follows along with the lessons and is heavily commented (a huge plus for beginner programmers.) Overall the book is a great starting point for anyone with the desire to make games and, in my opinion, seems to be the only true book on programming which does not require ANY prior knowledge of the topic. Great job Maneesh.
Rating: Summary: Great for newbies without the headaches of C or VB .net!!!! Review: The idiot that gave this book a one star and screams that you should learn a "real" programming language is a total moron and misses the point entirely. This book is not about teaching you program languages like C/C++ or VB .net or how to make $100K a year. It is meant to teach you the basics of programming in a fun way by using games as examples. If you have no experience and pick up a book on C++ or .Net or Java, etc. you will quickly become overwhelmed, you will lose your interest and quit. This author prevents that from happening to you!!Get this book, learn the basics, have fun and use this inexpensive book to help you decide if you want to spend a lot more money pursuing your dream. Hey...maybe you have no goal but you want to learn and get some knowledge while having fun...this is the book!!!
Rating: Summary: Moron Review: The moron that gave this book a one is an ASS HOLE!!! this is a book for beginning programing not for a colage grad who can afford to go to a expensive class.
Rating: Summary: Great for young programmers like me! Review: This book is definently a great book for making and designing games. This book helped me design my first game. If you are looking for a computer programmer carrer in the future this book will greatly help you!!
Rating: Summary: Great book! Review: This book is good at what it's suppose to do: Teach you how to make 2D games. But I rather take the hard way and learn C/C++ and DirectX. I also don't like the idea of having to pay 60 bucks for the full version. Well you don't have to buy it but you can't make executables without it. I'll give it 5 stars because this is a review for the book, not BlitzBasic. I still recommend all of you to learn C/C++ and DirectX, though. There are much more books about that and you really don't need a "for Teens" book to learn it. I'm a teen myself if anybody cares...
Rating: Summary: Can't be beat!!!!!! Review: This book is GREAT!!!It is very easy to understand, and even adds a bit of humor to get you through the hard to understand parts.I have even asked the author himself a question and he has shown interest in getting me that anwer. This is the best introductory book out there! If you are doing it for business you want to learn C/C++ but for everyday people wanting to maek games for fun, it a surefire book to get you started,
Rating: Summary: Read this book to become an expert video game programmer! Review: This book is supposed to be for teens, but ANYONE, no experience or lots of it, can learn fast and become proficient at programming after reading this book. The author skillfully shows how Blitz Basic is a great language to start building a career or a hobby in the video game industry. Lots of realistic examples and pictures make it very easy to learn the language and then immediately begin to apply it on your own. Starting with the fundamentals, Sethi goes on to show how to integrate functions, arrays, graphics, and even animation into your video game! I quickly mastered the language by reading the book. The CD-ROM that comes with it was an added benefit. Best of all, Maneesh himself is a teenager so he really understands how to explain it to anyone. Fabulous book! I am a parent and am going to buy this book for my kids and nephews / nieces to get them started!
Rating: Summary: Just can't be beaten Review: This is a fantastic book. It goes into a lot of detail and explains a lot about Game Programming, what to do and what not to do and it even explaines why some things are wrong. If you are interested in Game Programming, this is a really good start. This book begins with a very good approach and In my oppinion, the best approach to programming, it starts off with a written program of Pong and shows what a real program is like, THEN later in the book it explain what is what. In programming, this approach in my oppinion is he best approach to teaching programming. I highly recomend this book.
Rating: Summary: The perfect book for starting game programming! Review: This is a wonderful book for anyone that wants to learn how to program games. The first programming language I learned was Java. I started this language because somebody told me how "great" it was for games. Learning Java was a waste of time. With this book I learned how to program games using BASIC, which I thought would be to slow to run any games, but i learned it was the perfect started language for anyone. GREAT BOOK BY A GREAT AUTHOR BUY IT NOW!
