Zam Wesell (Star Wars)

Review: On the world of Coruscant, the Jedi council gets the alarming news that a war criminal, bent on revenge against the Republic, has gotten hold of a super weapon. On Kamino, Zam Wesell meets Jango Fett, and the two realize that they must deal with the man they helped to arm. With the Jedi on one hand, and the bounty hunters on the other, it's a race against time to save a world!

This graphic novel is a sequel to the book Jango Fett. As with that book, the artwork in this book is decidedly inferior. The Darth Maul graphic novel, which my son and I both loved, had excellent artwork, which leaves us wondering what went wrong with this book. While it has a good storyline, the book is rather slow at times. It does go a long way towards "humanizing" Fett and Wesell, which is good. However, I just couldn't ignore the decidedly inferior illustrating in this book.

Of the three books we have seen so far (Darth Maul, Jango Fett, and Zam Wesell), this book is easily the weakest. My son looked it over once, and tossed it off to the side. Overall, I would say that this book gets a 4 for story, and a 2 for artwork. My son and I give a highly guarded recommendation to this book.

Review: Poor artwork and a flimsy storyline make this a graphic novel for only those who must have every Star Wars comic.

Zam Wesell, yet another potentially great character who gets short shrift with only a few lines in the movie that features her, is once again badly served by this graphic novel. The characters are badly written, and seem wooden, with little relationship to their characters in the movies. The artwork is merely competent, and the characters' faces bear only a passing resemblence to their movie equivalents. The story is relatively short (56 pages), and the storyline is shallow to say the least.

All in all a poor effort. This is the first Star Wars graphic novel I've purchased, so I certainly hope this is not the quality I should expect from the others in the series.

Buy it if you must, but don't say I didn't warn you. :)

Summary: Not For Everyone
Review: This is the sequel to the same format of book entitled, "Jango Fett". The female bounty hunter Zam Wesell is one of several characters that are introduced to Star Wars fans for the first time in this book. Jango Fett is also a key player, and we are introduced to a very young Boba Fett as well.

There are fans that have searched out every piece of advance information they can about Episode II, this installment is for them. If you wish to enter the theater in May with only the information the trailers have provided, you will want to stay away from this story. In addition to a great deal of background on the two bounty hunters I have mentioned, there are also events that make fundamental changes to the cast of characters from previous films.

Without giving anything away these two bounty hunters conduct themselves in this instance in completely novel ways. What is clear is that these two new characters, together with Boba Fett as a child, all will add greatly to the next film. Boba Fett became one of the most popular characters despite having very few moments in the original films. The talents on display in Episodes IV-VI have a long history that started with Jango, and Zam Wesell appears to be every bit as good as her male counterpart. For those who have wanted more females in the world of Star Wars Zam Wesell will provide a great new player.
