Rating: Summary: A day in the life of a Bounty Hunter Review: I won't write too much, but I thought the Cowboy Bebop books were very nicely drawn and had interesting storylines. Unlike the series, which mainly focuses on Spike's feelings for Julia and Vicious' anger, the books add on to the ordinary but crazy days the bebop crew has trying to track down odd bounties.
I find these books very special - it shows the whole bebop crew together and expands upon their adventures, showing us that they were around together longer than the episodes made it seem. I love the series and I like the whole rivalry between Spike and Vcious as much as the next man, but I thought the series needed more time to show the whole group together like that. The books accomplish this, and I notice that they give you a different feel than most manga books.
I have yet to read the other mangas, but will eventually get them. Because futurisic stuff doesn't interest me as much as fantasy stuff, I gave this book a four, then I thought about it and changed it to a three when I figured "I only have volume one, who am I to give it a good score if I haven't experienced the entire manga collection? Maybe the other books will wow me more?"
Rating: Summary: In Search of a Payoff Review: It is no surprise that Cowboy Bebop refuses to die. Certainly one of the most successful action/comedy series of recent years, it really set a new standard for what anime is capable of when science fiction is focused on the characters rather than on giant mecha and evil aliens. Now that a new film is about to be released in the US, I though it would be interesting to read the manga. Of course, I was hoping for a continuation from the spectacular ending, but that is not the case. These stories are set sometime after all the characters come together, but before the final five episodes of the series. In itself, this isn't a cause for disappointment. This volume contains four stories. The first is a classic comedy of errors when Faye, Jet, and Spike trip over each other on a trio of quests. The next sends Spike to jail in order to free a wanted man. Then an unhappy misogynist decides to take on all the female bounty hunters in known space. Finally, we get a classic bad cop story that echoes Jet's past. This all sounds like fun, but I was honestly a bit disappointed. The stories are written for a younger audience (13+) and this weakens the narrative development. While Faye does some obligatory fan service, the truth is that the stories a mostly innocuous, lacking the biting dialog and styling of the original series. The illustration is a cut above average, but the vision is a bit claustrophobic. It is still fun to read, but I am afraid we are going to have to wait for the second TV series to get complete satisfaction.
Rating: Summary: I love Bebop! Review: It is soooooooooooooooooooooo cool. If you're a lover of the series(?) buy this.
Rating: Summary: The Anime The Manga Review: Its great to see Watanabe's hit anime in the manga form. I loved how he tipped the scales and did the anime then made a manga series. This is a really good manga! If you love Cowboy Bebop there is no letdown. For me i got it free(some buy four books get one free deal at Borders) And i love it the best thing is its printed so you can read it over and over and it won't fall apart!(/^_^)/ *\(^_^)/*
Rating: Summary: Shadow of a Series Review: Perhaps it is from the high expectations roused by the fantastic "Cowboy Bebop" television series that leads this Manga to be somewhat of a disappointment. Drawn in classic Manga style, there really is little to fault about the artwork. Leaving much to be desired, however, are the speech balloons, which rarely explicitly show who's saying what, leaving the reader to guess the speaker from the context of what's being said. Plotwise, these stories have as much potential as a typical episode of the television series, but fall short of achieving their rich fullness due to ambiguous leaps in action from panel to panel. Even after re-reading a section of the graphic novel, there are places that just don't seem to make sense, and that ring of faulty placement and/or translation from the original Japanese. The trademark dark humour, on the other hand, is markedly present. Even if the four stories contained herein aren't exactly true-to-life or entirely comprehensible, the fun of reading along isn't entirely diminished.
Rating: Summary: kind of surprising, but worth it Review: the new style in which the characters are all drawn is somewhat surprising, but not in any way bad... i agree with some of the comments in saying that the stories were somewhat formulatic, but i still throroughly enjoyed the entire book.
Rating: Summary: STOP! This is bad. You wouldn't want to spoil a great anime! Review: They should have included the "manga style" warning on BOTH ends of this book. Cowboy Bebop is an exceptional and brilliant work. This manga has truly done the anime a disservice especially considering is was produced post-series. How the characters could be so uncharacteristically portrayed both visually and behaviorally is astounding, unless the artists and writers were asked to recreate them from memory after watching one session. I know this is harsh, but its just a reflection of my profound dissappointment. I highly advise against book #3. The inside cover art - an obvious rip off of the famous photo of James Dean in NYC -depicting Spike as though he were a dirty, emaciated heroin addict is truly disturbing!
Rating: Summary: Takes getting used too Review: When I heard there was a Bebop manga coming out, I counted the days until I could get my fangirl hands on it. However, when I got it, I was a little disappointed. The character designs were so different it definately took a couple read throughs to get used to it. Also, the stories were pretty formulaic. But, despite the flaws, it was great to see the crew back in action despite looking a little weird. I especially loved the whole "Marilyn" episode ;-) So, this is really only a manga for the hardcore Bebop fan; don't expect it to be as great as the show.
Rating: Summary: A hardcore Bebop Fan is happy Review: When it comes to Cowboy Bebop I'm a fanatic, so I felt compelsed to buy the manga to further my Bebop collection. At first I thought the manga art was a little odd but it grew on me and I was waiting for the next instalation of this great series. If you pay attention to what each character says not only do you catch odd bits of 20th century pop-culture, but some how our author and artist captures the original anime's slick humor and Shinichiro Watanabe's vision for the series. By far this is one of the best done series to manga conversions I've ever seen. Although it's a little disappointing that there are only books in the manga's installation. All I can hope is that there will more added to this great manga series. This series is most definitely worth your hard earned money!
Rating: Summary: WOW!!!! Review: Wow! I am a HUGE fan of the anime and let me tell you, the manga is no let down. It totally captures that intriguing mood of the series, which I at first didn't think was possible! :) I am 100% satisfied! This is a wonderful book that any Cowboy Bebop fan should read. You won't be dissapointed. :)
