Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Great manga, bad translation Review: Alright, so we all know that Vol. 1 of Initial D was translated flawlessly, and everybody was happy. TokyoPop must have known this too, because the sales were great. So what we don't know is, why the heck did they screw the rest of the series up? They decided to completely remake the names, who knows why. They butchered the dialogue, and to top it off, they call it '100%' manga. what the H? Though I would like to complain all day about it, the entirety of this review isn't focused only on the translation. The story is great and the illustrations are fantastic (I dont really care much for the character design, but who cares). If I was basing this review on translation alone, I would give it 1 star, and if I was basing it on the manga itself, I would give it 5 stars. So, I merged the two and gave it 3. My suggestion is learn japanese and buy the import mangas. hope this helped some
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Not so bad Review: By reading the other reviews, you would probably believe that Initial D was a medoicre anime for borrowing from a friend or reading in a bookstore. However, I think that these reviewers are being to specific with their problems. Sure, they changed a lot of the names of the characters to english. So what? Some of us like to read names we can relate to. So they messed up the translation? I didn't see anything wrong with the one in this book. The animation is excelent, although it is a style unlike other mangas, and the story is creative and interesting. I enjoyed Initial D, and If you don't care about perfect translations and other picky things, check this one out. Oh, and if you DO care about the translations and names, just import it. It's worth it.

I don't want to spoil your experience, so I'm not gonna say who won the race..^^; This volume contains one battle and one test racing.. All were greatly described and so intense. I love it. There are one more challenger to Tak.. He drove GTR! I can't wait to watch GTR vs. 86..

Review: First of all, referring to this as a "100% Authentic Manga" is false advertisement. Henceforth, it should be referred to as "50% Authentic Manga" or "A Manga To Alienate The Fans" because that's what this is.They took an excellent manga that was aimed at a teenage audience, and made several very annoying changes in an effort to market it towards a younger age group. Disgusting. Moving on to the content: The Initial D books are supposed to tell the story of an exciting street racing culture in the streets of Japan. The manga and anime have captivated fans all around the world. This book, however, is a poor, pitiful, wretched example of what Initial D can be. Tokyopop really screwed this one up. I should add that Shuichi Shigeno rocks. Tokyopop is just evil.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Vol 1 Ok, but then it goes downhill fast. Review: I picked up vol 1 out of curiosity, since I had seen all the anime (1st, 2nd, movie, sidestory) and wanted to see how the story was different. Vol 1 is great, and I would recommend that. However, after vol 2. they americanized the names, which I think was stupid. Also, some of their technical terms for driving (understeer, oversteer, etc) in their glossary are lame. Maybe they need to find somebody who actual understands road racing to help explain some of it. Last of all, the scale for the map of Gunma prefecture is off by a large margin. It looks like they gave it a 200km (124miles) scale. This is absurd, since it makes Gunma approx maybe 1000+ km (600+ miles) tall and wide. Impossible since Japan isn't even that wide/tall there. I know.. I lived near that area. Guess it was supposed to be 20km.. that would make more sense.

Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Tokyopop is a disgrace--avoid volume 2 and above Review: I thought for certain the editing and Americanization of manga was over. Everything was fine with Tokyopop's new 100% manga line--even the first volume of Initial D. Then comes along this travesty courtesy of the "geniuses" at Tokyopop. The names have all been changed in this volume, even though the first volume had the correct names. The translation is nowhere near correct--you could black out the word bubbles and make up your own story and come out with a better translation than has been provided here. The disregard for the fans is flat out disgusting, and I will not be buying any more Initial D manga or anime until Tokyopop decides to correct their errors. Please avoid this release and spread the word to anyone else who might be interested in this series. If you really love Initial D or any kind of anime/manga, you'll agree this kind of censorship cannot be tolerated. (Especially when labeled 100% authentic! What happened to truth in advertising laws!?)
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Initial D rocks Review: Ignoring the debate on whether the series has been accurately translated from the original Japanese manga, I am hooked on the storyline of this Tokyopop-ized version of Initial D. As a person into the sport compact scene, I was overjoyed to find a comic on this topic that is realistic and accurate, not a fake exaggeration like a certain F&F movie that recently came out. If you aren't a total purist, and don't mind inaccurate translations but would rather enjoy a good story, check this book out ;)

Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: An Insult to Shuichi Shigeno Review: Not 100% authentic I don't mind if Tokyopop (TP) rephrase some dialogues, but to totaly butcher the whole idea of the dialogue is unforgivable. TP should also follow through to the idea of not changing names, coz I find that using the original names in the begining and changing their names on the following volumes very ridiculous. If you are a die hard fan, stick to the anime or buy the import manga... (100% authentic)
