Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Jay's Journal is the best book that I have read in a while. Review: Jay's Journal was the most compeling book taht I have ever read in my entire life. I am a freshman in high school, and I have never read a better book that anyone could understand in my life! The message is quite simple and this boy's story is extemely sad. Another reveiwer said that she would not have read this book if she had known what it was about. I knew what this book was about when I bought it, and I still wanted to buy it. Not becasue I'm sick or anything, but becasue it's te true story of a young boy that could have been one of my best friends. This book has left me thinkig about the situations in it, and has left me upset and torn up inside. I started to cry at the end after what happened to Jay and all of his friends. I suggest reading this book to anyone who watns to know the truth about issues like this.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: It shows how horrifying life really is.. Review: I am in Junior High and read this book. If I would have had any IDEA what this book was like I would not have read it. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK FOR PEOPLE UNDER 13!! I was scared stiff when I finished this (which was three weeks ago) and still am. I have cried so many nights not being able to sleep because I was thinking about it constantly. This book is sooo scary, and its TRUE is what shocked me!! People actually DO this stuff!! If you are a sensitive reader DO NOT READ IT!! it has really ruined part of me I am afraid. And it will take a long time to heal. This in a way is the worst book I have ever read but yet, the best. If you want to know what really could be happening to your teenager read it.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Excellent overview of dangers of the occult and satanism. Review: Jay's Journal takes one on a fascinating and absorbing journey into the unknown. It also explores the maturity and level of understanding of the teenage mind. Parents would be well advised not to take anything for granted when it comes to the behind scenes activities of their teenage children. Law enforcement authorities desperately need training on cults and how to recognize their activities. Animal sacrifice is the first clue that Satanism is being practiced. Education is this area is practically non-existent. Jay's Journal should be mandatory reading in Junior High School under the guidance of KNOWLEDGEABLE instructors.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Jay's Journal was very moving, powerful, and sad Review: Jay's Journal was an excellent book that would definatly touch anyone who reads it. I enjoyed it so much because the book is a true story about a boy my age (16 years old) who is going through some real life problems of any average teenager, such as the peer preasures of sex, drugs, and violence. Jay finds himself over whelemed, and unable to handle all of these pressures. He soon falls into a great depression and is struggeling very hard to overcome all of his problems. I would recommend this novel to anyone who has ever expirenced a hard time with peer pressure, I am sure they would enjoy it just as much as I did! I think writing books like this is a great idea because it shows kids what can and will happen to you if you get involved with the wrong group of people who pressure you to do things you don't really want to do. This book is very similiar to the book Go Ask Alice (also discovered by Dr. Beatrice Sparks). Go Ask Alice is also a true diary written by a teenage girl who is struggeling to get through life. I think Jay's Journal was even better than Go Ask Alice because Jay uses great detail in his enteries, which makes all of his expirences, and thoughts seem a lot more intense than they do in Alice's diary. But both books are woderful books that teach valueable lessons. In the book Jay's Journal, Jay faces many problems with his friends and family, and even though he doesn't want to Jay withdrawls himself from the outside world, and spends a lot of time alone in his room writing down his thoughts and feelings in his journal. His journal becomes his best friend, and Jay feels his journal is all that will listin to him, which is extremly unfortunate for him! If Jay would have discussed his feelings with his mom and dad, I know things could have gotten much better for him. If only his parents knew what Jay was going through the trajic ending could very possibly been prevented. The book Jay's Journal is a very sad, but it tells a very true story, I think Jays mother made a very wonderful, but hard decision when she decided to publish Jay's Journal into a novel for anyone to read. I do think the book may be inapproiate for children under 13 years of age to read. I don't think they would be able to understand most of Jay's feelings or actions.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Good book for teens that are troubled and want help. Review: This is an excellant book. I read it and it opened my eyes to what can happen if you turn to the "dark side" of life, Jay was troubled and the fact that he could not get the help he truly needed showed that life can become on auto pilot without you being able to make the correct descsions.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: none Review: I thought this book was a very good view of a young teenage boy with major problems, and it also strongly emphasized how messed up your life is if your into "O", so don't join them. I liked how in many times of trouble he depended on God, although he doubted a lot.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Jay's Journel was a great book Review: It gives you a look into a journal about a boy who you have never meet before, but might know someone like him out in the real world. It doesn't introduce caractures to you, he just writes about his friends right off in the beggining. It's uncut, uncencored, and says exatly was he had written in his journel before he pulled the trigger. You won't be able to put this book down.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: It was a great book, and it's kinda a tear-jerker Review: This was one of the books I read that made me cry for this young guy! It was a great book, only if you enjoy true stories.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Ok Review: I liked this book but I hated how Jay kept refering to homosexuals as fruits and queers.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Jay's Journal Review: "Oh, first we siphoned off the blood from a careful tiny slash in a vein, put it into gobs of gallon jars we'd ripped off from the A&W and the caterers, trying not to spill a drop. It would be used as part of a ritual when we returned home." If this kind of dark, scary literature appeals to you then JAY'S JOURNAL is the read for you. In this book, written in 1979 by Dr. Beatrice Sparks, a young teenage boy, "Jay", deals with the problems of drugs, sex, and most of all the Occult. While "Jay" is put through rehab and constantly tormented by his parents to get out, he is never able to shake the witchcraft and satanic practices of the Occult. Throughout the story Jay participates in acts of mutilation, torture, death, and orgy all climaxing when he and his two friends sell their "auwa's (soul's)" to the devil. This non-fiction book is hauntingly written in the author,"Jay's", own cryptic style. The text is filled with vivid images of occurrences from day to day."He's always growing a pretty good mustache; I'm trying but it looks like the moths have been in it. Like a dirty, fuzzy, little, barely visible caterpillar on my lip." The piece is written by a teenage boy, not a professional author, which definitely helps to make his problems seem more real. "Jay" is always talking in the first person, so we as readers are able to experience the events with him. Another strong point for the book is in the preface when the editor, Dr. Beatrice Sparks is describing "Jay's" life prior to the occult. "Jay was an exceptionally intelligent and articulate boy, with an I.Q. of 149+...He often worried that his friends weren't able to handle things the way he could because of his detached, intellectual approach." As this book was written without the author knowing it was going to be published, there was a lack of an ending to the story. This is impossible to correct because the author killed himself (assumedly) at the end of the story and couldn't write about that because he was dead. Along with the main character in this story, "Jay", is also a host of other individuals with cameos in the story. Brad and Dell are "Jay's" best friends also become entrapped in the occult. "Two stars over the left breast represented his 'eternal and forever' buddies, Dell and Brad." Debbie and Tina are also two characters that have a part in the story. Debbie is the crush Jay is trying to get over when Tina(with the occult) sweeps him off his feet. This book is geared towards young adults however much of the content is mature, and may be disturbing to some of the audience. It is a very similar read to GO ASK ALICE also written by Beatrice Sparks. That story is also a diary about a young persons life and the problems they had. Although the details are gory and explicit, this is an excellent choice of reading material. It incorporates all the elements of a suspense thriller along with those of a mystery horror novel.
