Summary: wonderful book
Review: This book was a beautifully written book that was easy to understand. I am a devoted Harry Potter fan and I felt that no other book could be as well written and interesting as anything J.K.Rowling writes. I was wrong. I am so glad I tried outthis book. By the time I read the first page I was hooked. I feel as though Mrs. Mah has written about something we all can relate to, feeling as though we are unwanted and unloved. You love the little girl right from the start. Trying to win her fathers affection when he doesn't even remember her name, or her date of birth. Her brohers and sisters are never nice to her. Her older brothers are always playing pranks on her, and her sister only ignores her. It seems as though the only one that cares is her aunt baba, whom shares a room with her. Her aunt tells her she can do what ever she wants to do and be whatever she wants to be because she is strong. So she decides to try and make her father proud by succeeding in school. This is a wonderful book, and I hoped my review helped you. If you buy this book, you probably will not be sorry. You are making a mistake if you don't give it a try. I tried it, and I loved it.

Summary: A Review on Chinese Cinderella
Review: Chinese Cinderella is an autobiography of Adeline Yen, an unwanted daughter. The story is set against a background of life in Japanese-occupied China and the civil war between the communists and nationalists, which followed Japan's defeat at the end of the Second World War. Adeline's family was rich, however they labeled Adeline as bad luck for her mother died just a few days after her birth. So, from that time on, her fate within her family was sealed.

As one of the stepchildren of her father's second wife, Adeline was treated as she was with a vicious contempt by all around her at home, apart from her beloved Aunt Baba and her elderly grandfather. Adeline was often mistreated; she had to suffer appalling emotional deprivation and rejection from her stepmother, Niang, while her children of received special treatment. As for an example, Adeline was restricted to a small area at her home, and she was not allowed to travel to school by bus, but must walk on foot although her school was far from her house. She had to wear shabby old clothes while the others wore fashionable new clothes. But Adeline was a very tough kid, she was not discouraged, although her family neglected and discriminated against her. In fact, she studied hard and was an outstanding student and the award winner of many academic awards. In addition, Adeline had her own pride and dignity too, she did not want her friends to know terrible was her life, for she thought they would tease at her, so she always found excuses for her strange behaviour. For example, for once her classmates asked her why did she walk to school everyday instead of travelling by public transport or private cars. She told them that she favoured in walking, although the others did not quite believe her.

Later, Adeline was deposed by her family to an boarding school, she continues to study hard hoping that it will win the respect and admiration of her family, the way it does with her peers. While this wish never quite comes true, her scholarly abilities ultimately pave her way to a better future. As a turning point, Adeline won an international play writing competition, for that, she won fifty pounds and also respect from her father. Her father finally remembered Adeline and decided to send Adeline to Oxford to study and medicine.

I think this is really a fantastic book, with the interesting historical background and also the vivid description of how Adeline¡¦s family discriminate against her and how she persisted to fight against them. The book reminded me of today¡¦s society, everyday on the newspaper, you can find people commiting suicide, I would strongly recommend this book to them, and surely they would regret. Compared to Adeline, their conditions are really peanuts ¡V exam results are not good enough, losing their jobs¡K I think that nowadays people are really too ¡¥fragile¡¦, they were afraid before they start to overcome obstacles and difficulties. Anyway, this book really impressed me lot, hope every one of us enjoy reading this book.

Summary: Horrible
Review: This book was very emotional. For me personally, it was very cruel of her step-mom to treat her like trash. It allowed me to realize how to be grateful and to understand that there are worse situations out there.

Summary: A Story Of An Unwanted Child
Review: This is a story about a girl that has always been an outcast to her family, she was only loved by her aunt and her grandmother; her mother died at childbirth. When her father remarries and moves the family to Shanghai to escape the Japanese during World War II, Mah and her siblings are treated badly by their stepmother. They had nothting to wear but school uniforms, they live in small attic rooms, and they had nothing to eat but small meals. While, her step mother and step siblings dined on fine foods. Mah finds escape from this emotional landscape at school, but the academic awards she wins only make her siblings and step mother jealous. She was then taken away from her aunt and shipped off to boarding school. I think this book is really sad and the events are really touching. This is a must read book.
