Rating: Summary: Falling Leaves Review: I thought Falling Leaves was a very sad but very good book.In her memoir Adeline Yen Mah talks about her tragic childhood. Her stepmother beats her, her dad ignores her, her siblings hate her because she is always in the top of class.Ever since her stepmother was in the family, woe came down on the family.Even though her parents ignore her, she yearns for their love. Her family was rich and when she grew up she got a reaaly good job. But even wealth couldn't sheild her unhappy childhood. It is a REALLY good book and I recommend to people of all ages. (...)
Rating: Summary: A really poignant story Review: This book was one of those few books that can hold you in suspense until the very end. I purchased this book at a local bookstore, because I just didn't have anything to read and since I am Chinese, I decided it would do me some good to read a book with so many details on my culture. My heading for this review says," A very poignant story," and that's exactly what it was. I was so glued to the pages that I finished this book in less than a day. I couldn't really relate to this book a lot because I come from a very loving family, but just knowing that all this actually happened made me feel just like Jun-ling in the book. I shared her triumph and her sorrow. I remember one point in the book where Adeline Yen Mah's words really touched me and I couldn't help but cry. So, if you're up for something fresh and new, I would definitely recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Good book for those who want to know about chinese culture Review: Do you want to know something about Chinese Culture? Or do you want to know what's the life of a 'chinese cinderella'? Now you can have a chance through reading this book. This story is about the true childwood of the author Adeline Yen Mah. Her mother died after giving birth to her. Her father marries another woman and made her as Adeline's step mother. Her step-mother treated her and her brothers badly but good to her own daughter and son. In this story, Adeline tells readers her own childwood, which had happiness and sad. This story is so attractive that I finished it withim two days. The story is very touching and made people think that although Adeline's life is bad but she could still live happily day by day. For me, a chinese people, I am glad that I am not born during that period in such a family. I think I won't be as brave as Adeline if I live like her. Anyway, this book is really attractive so you won't stop until you finish. Go and get one now.
Rating: Summary: Burning Courage.......... Review: I'm not exactly sure why I read this book because I don't like reading autobiographies. I prefer fiction, I always have, but I'm glad I read this book. The author did a fantastic job! I was hooked as soon as I read the first sentence and she kept my interest all through the book. Every night when I went to bed it was the last thing on my mind and first thing I thought of when I woke up. I couldn't wait to read more about Jun Ling. I loved not only reading about her, I also loved reading about China. I love reading about different ways of life, different cultures. I especially love historical books. (This one took place in the 1940's.) Jun Ling (Adeline) did a good job of portraying the China she lived in. (China before, in the process of, and after Communism.) The details were so vivid and all the characters in the book came to life. I cried and laughed with Jun Ling. Even as a little girl I knew that there was a rare courage within her. A courage that never left. She went through so much and never gave up hope. Now that's a rare person. I don't think I could go through so much emotional abuse. But Jun Ling did, everyone in her family, except her aunt and grandfather, hated her. But even though they did all she wanted was to make her family proud of her. This book is a beautiful blend of sorrow, joy, love, loyalty, and courage. Don't pass this one up, you'll never know what you missed, but trust me you'd be missing a lot.
Rating: Summary: The Greatest Book on Earth Review: I have to say that Chinese Cinderella was the greatest book I've read and probably ever will. Once you start reading it there is no way you can stop. I have never cried so much in my life. I can't really put into words on how this book has affected me personally. It really makes you think about how lucky and gifted we really are. I can only wish to ever meet Adeline Yen Mah and express my feelingS to her. I have to say that she is my role model. When ever I think about how unfair it is that I can't get a particular shirt or I think my moms being unfair, I just think about how lucky I am to have a mom who cares about me. I am really speachless... I never thought a book could do something so moving to me. I tell everyone I know about this book. I wish everyone would read this book.

Rating: Summary: Yen Mah's Masterpiece Review: Adeline Yen Mah's Chinese Cinderella paints a perfect picture of WWII China. This book made you look into China in the early 40's. Yen Mah tells her own story of growing up. Because her mother had died from complications from Jun ling(Yen Mah) her whole family detests her and blame her. Jun ling is veyr steadfast and the way her family (especially her step mother) treats her will make you clench your fists. This book will have you crying with Jun ling. It was not a slow book and kept me flipping the pages, to find out more as Jun ling is moved around China and Hong Kong while the japanese slowly start to take over. I loved this book and would recommend it to every woman, girl, and book lover
