Rating: Summary: brilliant but very sad 8-( Review: This was the best but saddest book i have ever read. I recomend it to all ages. The reaseon i loved this book is because it is about how you can be treated if you do something wrong even though it was tereble how her family thought it was her fault her fault that her mum died but truly it wasnt. Her auntie i was very pleased with and how she stuck up to the poor young girl through all the hard times her aunt was one of her best friends. Every one please read this book it is to good to miss

Rating: Summary: I live this Review: This book was one of the most touching things I have ever read in my entire life. I loved it! The realism of this touched my heart and it hurt to read it. I cried most of the way through this book.
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: I really enjoyed reading this book. From the point I started reading this book I was compelled to reading it and would only hesitantly put it down. The book was easy to read and understand. I was always able to sympathize with the feelings that Adeline Yen Mah had as a child. I liked that the book was set in China and made me more familiar to Chinese history and life. It was fascinating how Adeline Yen Mah was able to write about her childhood without pitying herself for the bad incidents that happened in her life. I liked that as a child Adeline Yen Mah was always optimistic and positive about her future even though she went through very bad times. I wish the book would be longer and not end so abruptly. Because of reading this superb book I am almost certain that I will read her autobiography "Falling Leaves".
Rating: Summary: Chinese Cinderella-the true story of an unwanted daughter. Review: I thought that this book was wonderful and touching. It is about a young girl (Jun-Ling) who was unwanted by anyone in her family. When givin birth, Jun-Ling's mum dies three months later. This made the rest of her family think she was bad luck. I encorage young adults to read this book. It may help you relize that you are lucky to have a loving family and not treated poorly by you sibilings or parents.
Rating: Summary: now, I know how lucky I am Review: Tremendous effort for the author who had just penned her first book. I just couldn't help feeling for her for the hardship that she had gone through. Just hope that after finished with her work, she finally laid her past to rest & found the inner peace that she's looking for. Having said that, I still couldn't comprehend her action of writing her second novel, Chinese Cinderella which dwelled on the same thing. The author shouldn't waste the talent that's within her & she should carry on writing other interesting stories that we readers are looking forward to oblige her by buying & reading the books.
Rating: Summary: I loved it! Review: Though a little slow at first, the story picked up dramatically. I found it touching. The story of an intelligent, unappreciated child. Constantly bringing home honors and straight A report cards, only to have her sisters and brothers hate her for it, and treating her cruely. Her mother died shortly after her birth, and her family sees her as bad luck. With only her Grandfather and Aunt Baba for help, "Cinderella" struggles through the pain of being ignored and beat by her parents. Her two step siblings are treated as royalty, while she and her other five siblings are subjected to teasing from classmates at their old fashioned clothes. You'll hate her parents, and sympathize with Cinderella. I recommend this book highly to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Chris Todd is still the king of Chinese culture Review: In this book, narrator Chris Todd does a great job of teaching the readers all about chinese culture. He explains the origin of his funny haircut, how to make killer eggrolls, and ask what time youth group is in English and "Christoddian" He tells the tale of a "Chinese Cinderella", that overcomes adversity to marry Prince Justin Yim. This book is a great read for anyone that wants to learn about a different culture, or just have a good time.
Rating: Summary: Powerful true tale of childhood abuse in post war Shanghai Review: Totally captivating, simply written.A study in bravery and strength of character of a sort unknown to me as a child.Despite the wealth of her Shanghai family Dr Mah vividly describes a life ofbeing ignored, routinely ill-treated almost constantly between the ages of four and fourteen.I kept asking how parents with any heart at all could treat a courageous small child so cruelly.(Forgetting to pick her up from school on her first day in first grade? Beating her until her nose bled because school friends came to her home? Not attending any of her school prize days?) I bought this book at Hong Kong airport last Monday and read it three times through between there and New York.I kept turning back to the haunting face of the eight year old Adeline on the paperback cover.I repeatedly found tears rolling down my cheeks not just out of pity but in appreciation of her strength and resillience. Many adult Americans would still be spending time with a psychotherapist and blaming their failures on this type of childhood. In Adeline Mah's case it gave her a strength and determination I must say I envy. She may still be suffering but I found this book inspirational.
