Summary: A Cinderella Story
Review: Chinese Cinderella is about a daughter named Jun-ling Yen, or Adeline Yen Mah (present name) who was unloved, unwanted, and mistreated in her family. Her stepmother, (Niang) undeniably loathes her. As for her father, he does what Niang does. Her four siblings and two half siblings played jokes on her made her feel like a loner. Really, the only three people she can count on are her Nai-Nai, Ye-Ye, and Aunt Baba.

I think this book was really, really good. It really moved a lot of people who have and haven't been in that situation alike. It was really hard to put this book down for me. When you read, an interesting part comes up and you just can't stop reading! This book is very similar to our Cinderella but from a different country. I would recommend this book to everyone. I would give it 5 stars because I enjoyed it so much, and you will too! It is truly a terrific book.

Summary: A Story of Strength
Review: Chinese Cinderella; A Story of Strength

Chinese Cinderella is a story of a girl named Adeline who wanted nothing more than to be loved by her parents. Adeline was despised by her family members; they blamed her for her mother's death. They treated her meanly and abused her not only physically, but also mentally. They stripped her of her self-confidence, and Adeline was too weak to stick up for herself. Her only joy was her Aunt Baba and Grandfather YeYe who saw Adeline as who she really was. YeYe and Baba gave Adeline hope and self-respect. However, they couldn't give her everything. During the hardest times, Adeline had to pull through by herself. This is the story of Adeline's struggle to overcome her family's insults and appreciate herself for who she really was.
Throughout this whole story, I was overcome with so many emotions. It was the first story that made me groan with frustration out-loud in the open. I feel like I could relate to the story because she was a girl having the same problems that related to me. If a child in the same situation read this book, it could seriously change their life! Chinese Cinderella is so real and how she expressed her emotions could even make a person with a great life feel her pain.
A gripping page-turner, I would recommend the story not only for children, but for adults as well. Chinese Cinderella tells of hope, inspiration, succeeding, failing, and most of all strength. A girl's strength to pull through her struggles. It's so good that once you start, you can't put it down!
This book has actually taken a toll on me. I have realized what a great life I have! I am so lucky to have such loving parents! I hope that you read this book and I know that if you do, you will really enjoy it!

Summary: yennie gots some issues
Review: I think yennies got some issues. I mean, when i saw this book i thought it would be like the disney movie, but in a chinese version. I'm don't wanna dog on this book because i thought it was aight(especially since i don't read too often), but it had some off the wall stuff. This was a very depressive book. I think they probbably made this a movie on the lifetime channel(the womans network). her family don't even the like girl and her brothers saying that she killed their momma. those brothers are nasty!! they pissed in a cup and gave it to her like a glass of kool-aid. but later she does smart in her school and wins that thing in her high school and her family relize she wants to go to school in england. It got to me twice when her sister and gandaddy die. Her aunt is one of the nicest people to her. she soon goes to school and becomes a doctor later in life and then a writer. i don't think i said this yet but its about the authors childhood life. This book is more for the teens dealing with problems just like yen. If your into sad stories this is a book for you. Overall, i thought it was a good book. So go out and by the book. for me, im just gonna go pick out some movies,...

Summary: The Strong Girl Of A Touching Story
Review: A photo of a little girl, Adeline Yen wearing an old-fashioned dress was printed on the cover of this book. This book is called Chinese Cinderella, which is a secret story of Adeline, the narrator. Thinking that there must be a touching story behind her, so I chose this book to read. After reading the story, I become very sympathetic with Adeline¡¦s childhood experience. Adeline was always very strong when facing her childhood difficulties. The book turns out to be exactly what I expected and it is a very touching story indeed. I especially enjoy the struggles Adeline had.

When Adeline¡¦s mother died after giving birth to her, her family considered Adeline was bad luck and she was made to feel unwanted all her life. However, she struggled on and proven her worth. Within Adeline¡¦s family, she could never choose what she liked and often received unfair treatments. Even though her father allowed her to go to university in England , she could only study what her father wished.

I like the book because the story inspires me to be strong even when facing difficulties. When Adeline was in her primary stage, nobody was coming to pick her up after school even when it was her first time at a new school. Adeline walked on streets tentatively and entered a shop to phone her family to pick her up, but she didn¡¦t cry. After that, she learnt to use a map. Obviously nobody would look out for Adeline and always forced to find her own way by herself.

This book is really inspirational to me. If you read it, you will get something from it!

Summary: Chinses Cinderella
Review: Chinese Cinderella

Chinese Cinderella is an autobiography by Adaline Yen Mah. The book is a true story of a Chinese girl who is neglected by her whole family. She is neglected because when her mother was giving birth to her she passed away. Everyone in her family thinks she is to blame for their mothers' death, but it wasn't her fault, her mother had complications. However, her whole family thinks she is a mistake. Her family believes she is bad luck. Then a horrible thing happens to her, the grandmother Nai Nai passed away. She was the only one who cared for Adeline. Now Adeline has no one to care for her, no one to look after for her and mostly, no one to love her.
When you thought things couldn't get any worse for Adaline, they did! Her father remarried and the new mother was named Niang. Niang was in control of everything now. She ran the house the way she wanted to. The stepchildren were always shafted and her children were always treated like they were perfect. Niang, the stepmother, hates Adeline and sends her off to boarding schools, never communicating with her. Not even her father writes to her because Niang blinds her new husband from the world. She makes everything he does needs to be about her and their children.
Since she was sent to the boarding school she has been depressed. Adeline feels like no one cares for her at her home, 'I want to forget everything that goes on here. I love my school. There I have friends! There I have fun!' Adeline is a smart girl; she earns prizes from school and is at the top of her class. She wins class awards about every week. However, these things aren't the things she really wants. What she really wants in the world is to understand her family and why they can't see that she is trying so hard to impress them.
The book is a very touching story and also very sad. It will help you understand how a broken child feels when no one cares. The book will open your eyes to a whole different world. It will open up a world that is full of desperation and neglect that some children live each day. This book brings forth reality. A lot of people think nothing of neglect and it is over looked most of the time. This book is a story that should be told everywhere for children who really don't have a childhood of laughter, and love.
When I read the book it opened my eyes and I now think about things differently. Personally I think the book was a great book. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to see the world in a different point of view. However the book is a little difficult because it is so deep, but anyone can get through it. I would say this book is an awesome book even though it is sad; if you think, 'I hate to read sad books,' I believe that you should read it. Just be prepared to never put your book down because I had a hard time putting the book down. I never wanted to stop reading until I got to the end!

Summary: Very good!
Review: It seems like many years ago since I read this book, maybe when I was in fifth grade or so? I still could remember the tears flowing down my eyes as I read about this poor, neglected child. As I grew up the story did too. I witnessed hundreds of my own kin reading this book and exclaiming the beauty it shared. This is a very good book and those who are reluctant, well just don't be.

Summary: Excellent memoir of an abused daughter who triumphs.
Review: In "Chinese Cinderella," Adeline Yen Mah has adapted the story of her loveless childhood for a younger audience. Without watering down the misery and the bitterness that she suffered at the hands of her vicious stepmother and her cruel father, she writes in a way that children can easily understand. Mah had few role models as a child, since her mother died shortly after she was born, and her stepmother loathed her. Only her Grandfather Ye Ye and her Aunt Baba showed her any affection at all. She was mercilessly abused by her parents and by her siblings. Fortunately, Adeline was an accomplished student, and she gained a feeling of self-worth from her scholastic accomplishments. Children who have felt lonely and unwanted can take heart from Adeline's story. She persisted in trying to make something of her life, in spite of her lonely and depressing childhood. For a more detailed story of Adeline Yen Mah's life, read "Falling Leaves," which is written for an adult audience. For children, "Chinese Cinderella" is a poignant and heartbreaking story of a young girl's courage and perseverance.

Summary: Adeline and her Chronicle of Courage
Review: Chinese Cinderella, by Adeline Yen Mah is a beautifully written, tragic, and moving true story of an unwanted daughter. Adeline Yen Mah tells the story of her bitter childhood in a touching and powerful way that makes you fall into the book and hang onto every word. The book takes place in China at the end of W.W.II and during the time when Communism is invading. Adeline's mother dies giving birth to her and her family blames her for the death of her mother. Her father then marries an evil, powerful, and rich, French-Chinese woman who despises Adeline from the day they meet. The stepmother takes away everything dear to her (including the only person who ever loved her) and greatly favors her siblings over her. She tries to disown Adeline from the family. Throughout the book little Adeline shows tremendous courage overcoming struggles and hardships from the age of four. I highly recommend this book because of its captivating emotional detail and because of its China's history is woven into the story and hidden between lines. I also recommend the book because of the horrible truth that the story is real. Adeline Yen Mah describes her feelings about her situation so vividly, that it is almost like you can see into this little child's mind and heart. I truly respect her ability to reopen a wound that is not yet healed and bring these memories to the surface, while trying to find words to express them to the reader. For, example, when her parents (her father and her stepmother) first took her away from her home in Tianjin to go to Shanghai without her Aunt Baba, little Adeline is terrified and lonely. She walks the miles to school and when she waits for someone to pick her up and no one comes, she realizes that no one is going to take care of her and that she will have to find her way in the world herself (at age 5). She describes her pang of hurt that no one cares about her enough to make sure that she home, and that no one in her family realizes that she is missing. Also, histories of China's struggles at that time make the story more brilliant. Her grandfather Ye Ye explains to her about the situation in China and she realizes how bad it is and begins to worry at such a young age (because there is no one to worry for her). The book includes history about China's position in W.W.II and Japanese occupation, its trying to become capitalists (like the U.S.) and its people's struggles when Communism invades. Though in my opinion this book has no flaws, less advanced readers may find it confusing and complicated. Because it is a true story of real people in China, each character has a Chinese name (which can become very confusing). To avoid this problem Adeline Yen Mah uses names such as Big Sister, Second Brother, Third Brother, Fourth Brother, Fifth Sister, and Little Sister in replace of the characters real names. This may make the book difficult to follow, and therefor take the books captivating essence. This true tale of courage, loneliness, loyalty, love, and determination will not disappoint you.

Summary: A MUST READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: I have to admit when I was first introduced to this book I wanted to put it back down because it looked liked a children's book and I NEVER have liked getting involved with the melodrama of the teenage worlds. But once I started reading I could not put it down until I had read it cover to cover. It touched me so deeply I found myself crying for her sorrow and suffering. A reader doesn't necessarily have to be going through the anguish that she went through in order to relate. Its theme is universal and I can now see why some schools are listing this book as required reading: because they might have been like me pondering weather or not to read it or not and wind up missing out one of the best stories I have read in a long time. It is so riveting that at times I forget that this is a true story. Now after reading this tale I appreciate my family more than ever before!!!!!!!!

Summary: The best book ever!
Review: Chinese cinderella is a touching story about a young girl who is known as the outcast of the family because her mother died from giving birth to her. It is one of the saddest books I have ever read and it is bound to make you emotional. Adeline Yen Mah makes you understand the story and brings the story back to life as you follow the journies of this unwanted child who has no mothers love and no fathers care.
