Rating: Summary: Wonderful Book! Review: Wow! This is the best book I've read in a long time. It really relates to young people and that's one of the many things that makes it great. It's not really complicated like some of the other books I've read. It doesn't have a lot of confusing terminology that you can only understand if your a climber yourself. It's both funny and touching and even if you don't like mountain climbing you will still find it great! I strongly recomend this book to anyone who is willing to read it!
Rating: Summary: Wow!!! Review: Mark Pfetzer is amazing. He is such a role model to me! He had so much will and determanation to climb mountains, and he did it! His book had me rolling in the floor laughing, yet the next minute I was in tears. As he described that stormy night on Everest in May of 1996, I felt as though I was there. I've had the chance to speak Mark and let me tell you, he is so friendly. He's the kind of guy your mother would want you to bring home. Clean cut and well behaved, he is a role model for all teenagers. Showing us that if you set you mind to something that you can reach it. He reached for the sky...and got it. I was interested in mountaineering, but after I read this book I knew that I was going to climb Mount Everest. This book touched me and I read it over and over. Whenever I get down I just pick up this book and read a chapter or two. This book is the best gift you could give anyone. Mark Pfetzer deserves his Everest summit more than anybody! Go Mark!
Rating: Summary: My Everest Story Review: Hello, I am a young person who loves the outdoors. Just about anything to do with the outdoors really. This book was excellent. It went way beyond just being a good book describing great places all across the world. This book showed me that if you put your mind to something and you want to accomplish it bad enough that you can make it happen. This is an incredible story that will inspire many people to go through with their dreams. Not only has this story inspired me to go out and try things that I have always dreampt of doing it has shown me what true dedication really is. Overall this book is very good, it is a wonderful story and I would recommend it to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: This is one of the best books I have ever read. I really enjoyed the fact that if Mark decided to do something he did it no matter what. He really kind of inspired me to pursue things a little more than just saying "Yeah that would be cool". If you want to read a great book or you just want to learn something about climbing I really reccomend this book.
Rating: Summary: An Inspiring Story Review: Greetings: I am a young reader and I found this book to be exceptional. This book is about mental strength as well as physical strength. Mark's views are interesting. In my opinion, the book is fine until the chapter entitled "The Storm." I've read about the storm before and I think he could have described Everest '96 a lot better. If you like reading about Everest I recommend "Into Thin Air" by Jon Krakauer.
Rating: Summary: Teachers take note: this is an education! Review: I thought this book had a slow start because there was a lot of background regarding Mark's introduction to mountain climbing. As I stayed with it though I appreciated the information because this was more than another book about the 96 Everest tragedy. It was about a young man who was atypical from his peers. He was a kid who thought for himself and went after his dream. In the process he learned about many things first hand. I applaud his parents for their willingness to let him persue that dream. I applaud the school district which supported his education in the outdoor setting. The result was a young man who was motivated to learn. As a person who works in the field of education, that is the goal. I thought Mark had a charming sense of humor in his story telling. He seemed balanced with his subjective remarks regarding other people. He had a sense of fairness. Having read a number of books regarding Everest, I thought that Mark did a fine job of describing his experiences from Nepal, the Yaks, tent life and the technical aspects of climbing at high altitude. In my opinion, if you want to know more about climbing Mt. Everest and aren't seeking a real thrill book, this is a good one. It's well well written, informative, and somewhat entertaining.
Rating: Summary: Very interesting, dramatic book. Review: I really enjoyed reading this book. It made me think that maybe someday I'd like to climb Mount Everest. (Of course, what are the chances of THAT happening!) Mark made it seem like anything was possible. If he could climb Mount Everest, then he could do anything. Then anybody could do anything. I like how the book was like a diary, and that there were photographs added - the book would seem more boring if there were no photos added to it. The dangerous climb on Mount Everest must have seemed like an adventure of a lifetime to him. All the training and practice and working out seemed like a lot of work - especially for a 14 or 15-year-old! Mark really described what it was like climbing Mount Everest, using personal expreience as his guide. This is a really good book for those who find Mount Everest interesting (or any mountain for that matter)! This book is also for anybody who's ever had a dream to successed in something. Mark proves that even though he was young, he could acchive anything...even climbing Mount Everest! And by reading this book, it makes you feel you can acchive anything, too whether it would be climbing Mount Everest or just even graduating from high school! This book is for YOU!
Rating: Summary: Down till the real climb Review: Hi! My name is Rachel and I am from Rhode Island and I am a young reader. I thought over all the book was ok through the first 100 pages. But as i approched the chapter called the STORM I then just sparked because the book got so much funner[ can not tell u y cause it will give it away. I really love this book because it shows that any ordanary person can go out into the real world and fo-fill their dream. I rate this a three because of the beginning of the book is really boring
Rating: Summary: Good Book For Young Adults Review: At first I thought that this book was going to be another boring book about some guy climbing Everest and other mountains. Boy was I wrong! This book was very good because it really made me feel like I could relate to what Mark was feeling at times. For example, when Mark was determined to do something like summit a tall mountain, I could relate it to challenges in my life. This book also taught me some valuable lessons that are very important to know during life. For example, that taking school seriously is very important because I can learn a lot in school. Another reason why I liked this book is because throughout the book it is always talking about interesting and exciting events.
Rating: Summary: Within reach My everest Story Review: A great book to read out loud to your 9-year-old son. It teaches about the will to try anything but also gives you opportunity to learn about other counties and find them on the map. You also get to talk about family values and when family comes before desires. Great book I would tell everyone to read this to his or her child.
