Summary: A summit bid!
Review: I like this book because of the exquisite outline of Nepali life. The author blended his outrageously funny humor with a great description of the mountains and people of Nepal. Although I do not appreciate the minor foul language used in this book this book is great. I suggest that people ages 1O-2O read this book.

Summary: On top of the World
Review: "Within Reach" is a perfect example of never give up, what ever you think you can't do you can do it. This novel is one of the better books I've read in my time. Pfetzer really describes the true beauty of the Himalayas and also describes the hardships of climbers. Pfetzer also has to overcome some troubles during his 1996 summit bid. Pfetzer being only sixteen has to decide school or climbing. When he chooses climbing so he can go on his summit bid, he will have to face the most powerful storm ever on Everest. This sixteen-year-old will try the most dangerous summit bid ever. All in all this exquisite book is one you will not want to put down.

Summary: Hardships of the Mountain
Review: GETTING TO THE TOPI enjoyed the way this book showed the hardships of life on the mountain. I think that determination is more important than anything while climbing. This book described sad parts of life excellently but the happiness was explained so well that I was overcome with the bliss of life. He works so hard and is so determined that it makes you want to do something out of the ordinary, as he did. Many people do not understand why other persons risk their very own lives to get to the top of the world. The simplicity of the answer makes it hard for anyone to not know the answer to his or her question. The answers are, in all the simplicity, religious reasons (to get closer to God or the gods) or just to know you made it.

Review: I read Within Reach with my class and thought it was a pretty good book. I thought it was very descriptive, and amazing. It is about Mark Pfetzer, a 13-year-old boy who discovers that he really loves climbing. After climbing lots and training with hundreds of exercise routines EVERY NIGHT, he prepares to climb the biggest mountain on earth---Mount Everest. Can he make it?

Summary: Everest '94
Review: I thought that this book was funny and exciting. I think that this tale was a real page turner. From when he first tried climbing, to when he's at 24,000 feet on Everest, I was on the edge of my seat. I recommend this book to people who like reading biographies, or exciting tales about people who have done exciting things. At the beginning of this book, fourteen year old Mark Pfetzer finds out that he has a passion for climbing. Later on in his life, after he has taken on many mountains in South America, he realizes that he might just want to take on Everest, the tallest mountain in the world. While all of this is happening his father has to go through surgery. This book is incredibly dramatic and dazzling entertainment. I don't know about other people, but I loved it.

Review: I really enjoyed the book. I liked the way that he described his feelings and the mountains. It is interesting to find out what the mountains are like. I also found it interesting what the towns near Everest are like. Now it makes me think how amazing it would be for a fifteen-year-old kid to try and summit a mountain that high. This book is very good for kids who are around ages 8-11.

Review: My Everest Story is an exciting book about a boy in his teens named Mark Pfetzer who has a passion for climbing. He starts with rock climbing but soon moves on to climbing Everest. Written in diary form, this book demonstrates the hard conditions of climbing. This book is good for around the reading capabilities of a fifth grader. I like this book because it has a lot of action in it.

Review: I think that this is a very good book for many reasons. It has a very interesting plot and it is written very well. The description of all of Mark's adventures is definitely not one that you will not want to put down. For a person that has not climbed, it is not a book that you will get lost in. It is not only a very good book, but it has many lessons within. I think that it is a very good and outrageous book.

Summary: An Inspirational Book
Review: This is an amazing and inspirational book. It shows that anyone with a mind to succeed and a willingness to keep on going through anything can do something. Mark Pfetzer battles all manners of adversity and, in spite of his age, still travels to his lofty dreams, the Himalayan mountains, where Mount Everest is located.
Although the writer is a person with incredible talent, he writes with a minimum of teenage boastfulness. His writing takes you to the mountains along with him and helps you experience the beauty, danger and triumph of climbing the highest peaks on earth. In conclusion, this is a book well worth reading. Although Mark isn't always successful and sometimes disappointing, his triumphs well overcome his misses.

Review: Within Reach is a reaal life account of a sixteen year olds advntures and hardships. When Mark Pftzer was thirteen years of age, he started to climb. First it was a rock gym in Rhode Island. then it was mountains in New England. After that he started to travel international. Nepal, Argintina, Venuezla, and Peru. After climbing some prep mountains; Mark went to Everest. The first two times he did not summit. While Mark was in Nepal(on his second attempt to summit)his dad got cancer. After the cancer aws treated, Mark went to Everest for a third try. Read the book to find out the rest of the story.
