I was surprised that a teen could write a book that would be so compelling and insightful. In fact, I think that it is fair to say that Ms. Tarbox has more insight into life than most forty year olds. She writes with wonderful clarity in a straightforward manner that doesn't leave you guessing to get her message. The message, in fact, is one that every chatroom visitor should take seriously.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Learning our lessons young Review: There are real victims whose lives provide inspiration for those around them. But Katie Tarbox is not one of these people. She ignored all of the lessons we are supposed to learn as young children, those lessons that are meant to take us through our lives and threw them away with reckless abandon as she searched for comapny on cyberspace. The lessons taught to children should extend into the realm of the intenet. How she got a book deal is beyong me, the quality is poor and the message, and age old tale of plain stupidity.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: A compelling account Review: Katie deserves strong credit for writing such a compelling book, especially at her age. While the book is not a literary masterpiece, one must remember that the author is a child -- a point driven home by the story. She writes from the context of her feelings at the time, with all their immaturity, to place the story in context. Although I am a much older adult, I can completely understand how she was seduced by this older, seemingly caring man. It easily could have been me, had the Internet existed when I was her age. What I found most interesting was the latter part of the book when she discusses the criminal proceedings and other repercussions. I hope that parents, teachers, law enforcement personnel and criminal lawyers will read this book, to understand how a child feels when caught up in legal situations where they really are the victim. I commend Katie for her courage and strength.

I just can't get beyond the poor quality of writing, the incessant rambling about nothing, stories with no point. I suspect the reader doesn't need more than half of the background on what it's like to be thirteen - not to mention those who may not sympathize with a girl who is growing up in privilege and complaining about it. I wouldn't waste the money - there are plenty of less painful ways to learn about the dangers of the internet than reading this book.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Thank Heavens for This Book! Review: We are long overdue for a book which deals with the topics of teen internet relationships, sexual predators and their far-reaching negative impact on their victims, and the overall struggles of passage through adolescence. I found it very well written and really related to the problems that Katie describes. I'm recommending it to all my friends. Great book!
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Pretty good read - sad story Review: Katie did a good job in expressing her feelings; yes, the writing is a little stunted but one should not read this book with a critical editor's eye. If you read it with an open mind and a little bit of sympathy, you'll get a lot out of it. She did a good job of capturing how high school must be for a bunch of kids. Her description of how friends come in and out of your life - what seem like best friends can be scratched out numbers in your address book next week - is also very good. My biggest gripe is the cost - 190 pages of 'quality paperback size'. But I doubt Katie had a lot to do with that part. I am still curious as to why she held affections for her assailant for so long - that is probably the scariest (and least understood) part of the book to me. She does have courage, though.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: As real and as sad as it gets... Review: Katie.com is one of the saddest and brightest books I have ever read. Not because it was written by an author but because it was written by a person, , so I can forgive the amateurism. Katie is alive with the youthful enthusiasm and idealism of a bright loving young woman but is shattered and surprised when she meets carnivore of a person looking only to satisfy his own needs, not caring how long he has to he wait to spring his emotional trap or the damage it will cause. But that is is only part of the book, it realistically portrays society's attitude from gossip in Junior High School hallways to the self righteous comdemnation of cruel parents of the self-presumed good-kids. This is a book to share with your friends and children to warn of what can happen when one keeps secrets and decieves. READ THIS BOOK !
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Every parent and teenager should read this Review: I think we all overlook how difficult it is to grow up in today's world. Katie.com illustrates how challenging it is for teens to face many issues that surround them. It is a book that is written on so many levels that I think anyone can relate. I appauld Ms. Tarbox for courageously speaking out about this issue.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: I disappointment Review: I often struggle to find a good book to read. When I read the amazon review, I thought it would be a good, well written novel about the dangers of the internet. After reading the book, I was shocked with the first reviews of the novel, for they seemed unreal and fake, as if the person never read the book. After the first pages, I felt like I was listening to someone complain, and as I read, it seemed to get worse and worse, making absolutely no sense with no application to my life. It seems like it were written by my little sister. An interesting topic, but dissappointing product. I feel cheated. If you are about to buy it, Please reconsider and spend your money on a book with real substance, that has some value towards your life. Even if you think you can relate to the topic, it doesn't address the issue intelligently. I find it hard to imagine anyone appreciating this as a piece of "literature." There are thousands of great books out there. BUYER BEWARE, THIS IS NOT WORTH IT.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Poorly Written Sob Story Review: While it is unfortunate that the author felt violated, it is difficult to give her very much sympathy. The book reads like the latest issue of YM magazine. Ms. Tarbox paints a picture of her town as if it were an elitist, highly competitive, and altogether unpleasant place to be a child, yet she adores her even more homogenous New England prep school? New Canaan and greater Fairfield County is a wonderful place to grow up. Children there are generally very well-off and denied little. It is unfortunate that Katie's story was not better written. A few extra hours of editing would have gained more sympathy for both the author and her cause instead of making them both laughable.
