Rating: Summary: Compelling and from the heart !!!!!!!!! Review: I read a lot of WW2 fiction and so far there is only one book i've found betters than this (the book is number the stars by Lois Lowry)so read both of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: It is sad but true Review: I know the story is true and that is why I am forcing nyself to read it, but to tell you the truth the book is boring.
Rating: Summary: Tragic event, uneventful book. Review: Although the holocaust was one of mankind's darkest moments, and I feel great sorrow for all the innocent people who died at the hands of evil, I took little interest in this book. When I read the book, I did not get the impression of a girl suffering at the hands of Nazi's, but of a girl anger at the people around her. She pours out her thoughts about the little things that most adolescents feel when they have overbearing adults in their life. The few words she uses to express her feelings about the war and about how all people are good at heart is inspiring, but these ideas are not new and are, in fact over used. This story could be better expressed in a third person point of view, for then could the reader get a broader, more detailed version. But reading this dairy, someones own personal, typical thoughts is not literature for all to read. A dairy is someone's private haven for their feelings and thoughts, not a book for everyone else to read. Read it if you! wish or if you must, but I do believe you will be rather dissapointed.
Rating: Summary: Anne Frank was not alone Review: The Diary of Anne Frank is a wonderful book. It shows you the fear the Jews felt during that time period. But the book also makes it seem as though Anne Frank was the only child who endured that horrible thing. Anne was not alone. What about her sister Margot? She was there too. And many other children also expierenced what Anne did. We should remember not just Anne Frank, but all the children. Anne's diary is an insight on what many children felt. Anne was a strong person who never gave up. The world will never forget Anne, but please do not forget the others.
Rating: Summary: this book was great!! It showed her great courage. Review: The diary talks about her life when she was in hiding in the Annexe. Her courage and cheerful spirit kept the families going. When she got her diary, she instantly started to write in it. She named it "Kitty" and treated it as a best freind. Her tragic death in Bergen-Belsen was extremely hard to read because you would think that she would live in the camps, but the treatment that she got because she was a Jew was horrible so she died of typhus in March 1945.
Rating: Summary: Anne Frank was an amazing person. Review: This book is an extrodinary example of the human spirit. Though locked in an attic for 2 years, Anne never gives up on living. She truly holds on to her ideals untill the end. I wish that there were more people like her in the world.
Rating: Summary: Touching story of human nature and a legacy against hate. Review: I never espected such a wonderful piece of writing. Historical and personal, it covers so many aspects of life. This detailed account of her two year life within the "Secret Annex" to escape Hitler's "final solution" is extrememly moving. Through it all Anne changes, attempts to understand herself, and keeps a hope for tomorrow. It is heart-wrenching to know how it will end. One would wish they could read about her complete fulfilled life but alas the diary ends with her life still full of dreams and hardly begun. I would suggest reading Mein Kampf before this (if you can stand to) in order to experience the antithesis of her inward-looking, caring being. It is indeed a stark contrast. This book speaks plainly of a human reality and an incredible tragedy.
Rating: Summary: A Book that will bring tears to your eyes Review: Anne was so alive and mature she learned to except her life even when things were tough I can't believe not every one could not love such a wonderful girl.
Rating: Summary: Anne Frank's diary is an inspiring, touching life story Review: "Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl" is a powerful, inspiring life story. It is written extremely well and apeals to any reader who is human. Instead of a depressing horror story about World War 2 it is a real story of a couragious, cheerful young girl who faces surcumstances with an open mind and a heart full of truth. Her story inspired me to go out into the world and make it a better place instead of being deeply scared by the horrible things that have occured in our world. The diary gives you the feeling of really knowing Anne on a deep level. She loves her diary and the love comes across to the reader. Anne's unusual life makes her think much more deeply about things and therefore her thoughts can be inspiring to people of all ages. It's an extremely powerful book and one should read it knowing that it will have a big effect on their lives because it is really sad. But I think everyone one should read Anne's story.
Rating: Summary: Very well written and a wonderful view of the Holocaust Review: This was a very good book that really made me question my beliefs and values. Her words were written so innocently, but they contain such depth. As a 13-year-old, Anne was involved with her girlfriends, boyfriends, ice cream. ping pong, and her classes and teachers, and then suddenly she was taken away fom all that and forced into hiding with just her family. It is interesting to see how she adjusted to the strains of living constantly in just a few rooms with the same few people and how she continued to grow through her relationship with Kitty, her diary and best friend. Anne presents a distinct view of the Holocaust, one that is from the inside like Elie Wiesel's "Night". Thourgh her writing I can imagine more easily how this atrocity actually occurred. She has an eloquent style of writing that is sensible and straghtforward. I highly recommend this book and hope that you will read it and that it will enrich your understanding of this period in history, too.
