Rating: Summary: Powerful book about Anne's life during World War II Review: The Diary of Anne Frank written during World War II is very poweful but also sad. Her hopes, dreams, love, worries and everyday life in Secret Annex, the hiding place her father built in the attic above his office, are put into the diary. Anne Frank lives in the Secret Annex for two years having almost nothing to do. She lives with her family, van Daan's family and Mr. Dussel. It is very hard to live with another family even for ten days, but she has to live with them more than two years. It is no wonder that these people start to argue with each other. Because they cannot go outside and work off their stress, they have to yell at each other in order to get rid of it. But sometimes Anne is really hurt by their cruel words. She uses her diary to write down her complaints about her mother, sister, and other family members. she is sad that none of her family members treat her as an adult. Anne is an emotional person. Sometimes she gets excited and emotional and writes something bad about her family. Later, she always regrets about writing such evil things and feels sorry about them. Anne also writes about her dream of becoming a journalist. Something she wants to do after war is to go to the school and study with her friends. All of the people in the Secret Annex are waiting for war to be over. They listen to a radio about the condition of war and hope that someday they will be set free. But before the war is over, they are found by policemen and sent to the concentration camp. All of thm except Anne's father die there. Anne's hiding comes to notheing. The only good thing is that her wish comes true. Anne wishes, "I want to be useful or bring enjoyment to all people, even those I've never met. I want to go on living even after my death!" By the hand of Anne's father, Anne's diary is published, and today, more than 18 million people in the world have read it. I am sure that Anne is very satisfied for what her diary has done for all the people in the world.
Rating: Summary: An unconscious testament Review: The most remarkable thing about this book is that Anne Frank did not know she was bearing partial witness to what would become one of the most debased chapters in human history. That is one of the secrets of the book's power -- that she had so much to say about what she saw so clearly, and did not realize that it would come to mean so much. If she had lived -- either through rescue or through some combination of bureaucratic oversights that spared some -- she would no doubt have been stunned to know what her private jottings had amounted to for the rest of us.
Rating: Summary: Good book if you have about a million days to spare! Review: Okay, so this book is supposed to be the historical diary of young Anne Frank. It is supposed to be a brilliant book writen by a young girl who hid in the back of a shop for two years. I thought this book would give lots and lots of information about World War II. Instead, I found myself reading endless acounts of the Anne and her families every move. I can not even begin to understand how she could possibly write all that down. Personally, I like suspense and lots of dramatic events in a book and this had none. I really wished she had talked more about the problems the Jewish people of her time were going through with the Nazis. So, if you want to read a book about a girl who hides in a small room for three years read it! But, if you want to read about World War II, I recomend "Devils Arithmatic" or "Number the Stars".
Rating: Summary: Moving and historically important Review: This diary is incredibly moving as well as being one of the most historically important documents of this century. To read this diary is to be given a wonderful, fresh insight into life in hiding during the holocaust. Reading this diary is an amazing opportunity, and anyone who wishes to have a door through which they are able to join and better understand life and history as seen through the eyes of one very unique adolescent should make sure to read it. It greatly saddens me to see reviews which treat this real-life diary as if it were fiction, rather than a girl's intimate account of a very unusual existence. Please read and enjoy this book for what it is, not as a fictitious novel which can be dismissed as such. It is not to be judged or understood in those terms, as I see it has been in other reviews here. Read for historical knowledge, read it for it's secretive appeal, read it because it is great literature, but do not review it as if it were fiction. It is not a novel to be picked apart by the masses. It was not meant by the author to be read this way, so do her the respect of appreciating it for what it is, nothing more, nothing less.
Rating: Summary: No words can describe... Review: No words can describe what I feel as I read this book. The painthat is in the Holocaust leaks through the pages with blood. But also, looking back at some of the lighter entries in Anne's diary, I can't help but smile. Anne was someone who was misunderstood by many, but also someone who loved life and enjoyed it. She had a good sence of humour and, (I don't know if this came out right), had some fun during her short time on earth. But what made me exceptionally sad, was when I was finished reading, I imagined Anne's dad, Otto Frank, coming after the war into the annex and finding his daughter's diary. I can only imagine the pain that he felt as he picked up the pages and read, remembering his daughters and wife and friends, all lost. That image in my mind still makes me cry today.. If you haven't read the book I have only one message for you: Read it as soon as you can.
Rating: Summary: This book was originally a diary nothing more! Review: Anne Frank did not write this to be turned into a book, it was her personal diary, and was not turned into a book until it was found intact at a Nazi concentration camp after the war was over, and Anne Frank was deceased. Many of the other reviews talk as if she wrote the book, and one other person says it was uneventful, it was not meant to be eventful, it was a journal where Anne wrote her thoughts. I just thought that might be some useful information for you to read and keep in mind as you are reading the other reviews of the diary of Anne Frank.
Rating: Summary: A book of hope in a tragic time. Review: I think that this book shares in what Anne Frank cared about during one of the tough time in our history. This girl only three or four years older than I am was able to live through a period with very few freedoms. Anne is an honest person, and a very good writer. She shows that determination, and not loosing faith is the only way to live day by day. She outlines what life was like for an everyday person in hiding. The thing I like most about this book is that it could happen to any of us if times got that bad.
Rating: Summary: This is a moving yet realistic book. Review: I believe that this book is excellent and is well worth a read. It is a sad, moving book which gives us all an insight into the torture and the misery caused by one mans racist views. All I can say is it left me feeling over whelmed by it and I've even read it twice!
Rating: Summary: I thought that the book was well written for a 14 year old. Review: Anne Frank's diary was a good book for various reasons. Her writing abilities are advanced compared to many 14 year olds nowdays. I thought that the book had many good points and it shows a point of view that is very hard to see from.
Rating: Summary: Deeply moving beyond words Review: This is the most profound book I have ever read. You cannot help feeling a deep sense of loss when you finish this book. Like most other readers I feel that I know and love Anne Frank. She had such a yearning to live, to love, to know others and to be known, to accomplish and to make a difference in the world. In the light of this her pointless early death in a concentration camp is so deeply poignant. Her story has caused me to feel pain and loss but it has also made me understand more what we are; her strength and life have given me a powerful desire to live a better, more rewarding, and more meaningful life. After all I am not cooped up in hiding unable to go out into the world - so what's stopping me? The answer - only myself.
