Rating: Summary: This is one of the world's best books!!!! Review: Anne Frank's dream to go on living after her death has been fulfilled. She is known world-wide. I read the diary for a biography project for school and LOVED it! I may only be 12 years old, but this book meant something to me. Some may say it is too emotional for a 12 year old, but I believe that it is perfect for 2 reasons: 1- It's a diary, for Heaven's sake! Anyone loves the chance to read someone's diary, don't they?!? 2- Anne Frank was only 13 when she started her diary. It is a child's veiw of the Holocost. My mother is going to take me to the Holocost museum in Washington, D.C. soon. She says that before, I may not have been ready for it, but having read THe Diary of Anne Frank, I may be a little more prepared for it. Any one who has not read this should take it from me: IT IS AWESOME AND A MUST-READ FOR ANYONE OVER 10!

Rating: Summary: Anne's Diary is an invaluable document Review: Her diary was Anne Frank's most intimate friend: she called it Kitty, and there was nothing she did not dare to write into it. Anne wrote in a detailed, lively way. For Anne, writing this diary was more than just taking notes ,it helped her coping with the natural problems of a maturing girl: her own "split" personality, her relationship with her parents and other people, her sexuality. Above all, this diary helped her to survive during the two years of hiding. She expressed her fears, her depressions, her hopes, and by this, regained strength and optimism. Moreover, Anne's reports tells us what she and her family knew about the terrible fate of the Jewish people and about the political situation. It may be astonishing how well informed they were, even in their Secret Annexe! She also described the courage and devotion of the people who tried to save their lives. Therefore, Anne's diary reminds us of all the people who suffered under Nazi-Deutschland, and of all the encouraged people that dared to resist. It is an invaluable historic document, the story of the personal fate of a young girl and her family, which touches everyone who reads it. Therefore it helps to remember one of the darkest moments in human history, and it makes us aware of our responsibility to prevent such a terror happen again.
Rating: Summary: Reading a "real" diary of an adolescent Review: I hardly believe what happened in Anne's life really did happen, everything written down was from her point of view, not of the other parties in the household. Nevertheless, I happened to enjoy this book. It is wholly known as a biography, not fiction. Number the stars was a fiction, so nothing emotional came up inside of me. But this edition of Anne's diary did, from her little point of view, her ideas and reactions to the world around her. Noticably, you grow along with this girl. This isn't very difficult to read, but there are subtle hints to things that may discourage strict and weary parents. Some people may find the context of this book too advanced for even a 13 year old. Well, as long as they understand what they should and want to know, this book will be fine for all to read.
Rating: Summary: An eloquent masterpiece to the soul. Review: This diary is one of the best books I have ever read. It reminds us of the horrors of war and the harshness of living in hiding. I believe that all people should read this inspiring masterpiece.
Rating: Summary: Tragic tale of Girl in Peril Review: I have read the other reviews for this book. I was struck when I read what other people were saying. I am writing this review to set your thinking into a positive manner. This diary is a true tale of courage on the part of members of the Jewish community during one of the worst Anti-semite rises. This is about Anne's Life, and the lives of six others in a completely accurate description of Wartime Amsterdam. I was so caught up in this book that I was awake until Eleven O'Clock every night reading this Fascinating, inspirational book of Courage under Fire! P.S.- I am a twelve year old Holocaust buff. This book was not!! found in a concentration Camp, but in the Hiding annex. Her father Otto found it.
Rating: Summary: An adolescents views on such a horric event in history! Review: In Anne Frank's Diary " The Diary of A Young Girl", she not only gives an account of two Jewish families in hiding during one of history's most horrific events, the holocaust, but also takes us into her true feelings and critical outlook on others around her. The most remarkable part of her diary is that she is only thirteen years old, who quickly matures because of the circumstances. This book may be written by an adolescent person but Anne Frank is much more capable of understanding her faults and strong characteristic than many adults today. She is able to touch many different subjects; politics, war, sexuality, religion and in every one she captures you with her deep philosophical thoughts, which are well expressed for a small child. On top of that she writes in her diary several movements against the Jewish people by Hitler. She also gives us her hypothetical scenarios like how the authority given to German soldiers by Hitler would be abused. For instance when soldiers had the authority to shoot his officer if he knew that the officer had anything to do with the conspiracy on the attempted assassination of Hitler's life, she wrote that this authority would be abused at this point by an angered soldier. Through all her ordeals she is still able to maintain her good nature. She wrote in her diary that she would like to become a journalist, which she accomplished with this book. This book gives us just a small sample of what she would have been capable of offering journalism would she have survived such turmoil in history.
Rating: Summary: Interesting story written by a 13 year old girl. Review: "The Diary of Anne Frank" is an interesting story because it is written by a thirteen year old girl who expresses her experiences while hidden in the "secret annex" during World War II with all the emotional turmoils of an adolescent. While writing in her diary Anne appears to be mostly in a positive mood. She is frustrated at times but you can almost feel that she is trying very hard to keep her sanity by being positive and cheerful most of the time. On March 27, 1943, Anne wrote in her diary, "We've finished our shorthand course and are now working on improving our speed. Aren't we smart!" Her way of writing gives you the impression that she was trying to make the best out of what was happening. She is in confinement to avoid being sent to the concentration camps during the war so you can imagine what she goes through while living with her parents, her sister, Mr. and Mrs. van Daan, Peter van Daan, and Mr. Dussel who in Anne's opinion is an old and selfish man who shares the same room with her. On May 1, 1943, Anne wrote in her diary, "It's absolutely disgraceful that Dussel, whom we've treated with such kindness and whom we took in to save from destruction, should stuff himself behind our backs and not give us any thing. After all, we've shared all we had with him!" The reason that I was interested in reading this book was because I was curious as to what it would have been like to be in confinement or in hiding during the war and being a teenager. The biggest thing that I've learned by reading this book is to appreciate all the things that I have and not take them or the people around me for granted. Also that one must never give up hope for life and to know that there may be people out there like Miep, Bep and Mr. Kleiman, that are willing to help you survive. Reading this book has also helped me realize that being critical of my sixteen year old daughter is not always viewed by her as a positive and constructive way. So I am going to try to spend more quality time with her and not be so critical of her actions.
Rating: Summary: An inspirational memoir of hope. Review: The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank is an inspiration for anyone facing a situation of doubt and uncertainty. During the Holocaust, this vivacious thirteen-year old went into hiding with her family to avoid the concentration camp call-up. Even though she had no idea how long they would be in hiding, she continued her studies so she would not fall behind in school, anticipationg that she, as well as the others, would come out of the war alive. In addition to her schoolwork, Anne kept herself occupied by reading books, studying languages, learning shorthand, writing and above all, confiding in her diary. Anne saw herself as "living an Adventure," still she came across instances in which she felt her spirit breaking down: Criticism from the other occupants, animosity between her and her mother, failed liberation attempts, lack of food, fear of being discovered, guilt of not being able to help fellow Jews, overall living conditions. However, she succeeded in combating her depression by recognizing the positives in her life. There are so few people that would have kept a positive attitude under these horrendous circumstances, yet Anne chooses not to give up hope, looking forward to the future where she can once again be free to smell fresh air, run and laugh. Fortunately, Anne kept her hopes alive, mustering enough energy and courage to record her memoirs in her diary, which, as a result, has become known worldwide, as a reminder of the atrocities of the Holocaust.
