Rating: Summary: A classic? That is debateable Review: The book is written very well, and the author is not as terrible as he may be given credit to. But the book only lacks in one area... Entertainment value. I was required to read this book for an English class, but did find it to be interesting, just not entertaining at all.
Rating: Summary: This book really brings out the inner feelings of man Review: Though not the most exciting book I have ever read, it was very good in that it displays what one's personality can do when it erupts. It shows the effects of war, being drafted at 18, how it can drive a normally calm person 'psycho'. It's about friendship, loyalty, suspicion, and the ever growing hunger to be 'the best' and how it can warp a persons' mind. I learned many things about myself as I read this book, and say it is a must read for Young Adults. -Sahara
Rating: Summary: This book is very depressing, boring, and not worth it. Review: I hated this book. I was required to read it twice: in 8th grade and Freshman year and I hated it more with every page. High school boys don't think like that, they're not murderous crazy people they're boys. Knowles does not know what he is talking about. The writing is poor and the overall plot is boring and depressing.
Rating: Summary: Warning!! Warning!! Review: Do not read this book. It sux. This book can possible be the most superficial and the worst book that I've read so far in my life. Save your soul and don't read this book.
Rating: Summary: i LOVE this book Review: i reread it for the 3rd time today. i first read it when i was in 8th grade and totally loved it then too, so i don't think this book is really targeted at any age level, but rather, at those who are emotionally ready to understand, no matter what their ages are. I think you have to have gone through certain aspects of life to really get what the novel is getting at. I loved this book when i was 13, but i understand it a lot better now that i'm 18. And i will always, always, be in love with Finny =)
Rating: Summary: decent story, brilliant ending Review: I don't mean to brag but I read this book in one day, and for this reason got a fairly intense impression. Someone said it was very close to Salinger. I don't think so. It is not very well written, and I felt disappointed by how the idea of the story hadn't been pushed far enough. In Salinger's hands this could have been an actual modern classic. I was nearing the end of the novel, however, and was happy to be almost done, when I was struck by the very last page. It seemed out of place and far too ambitious for what had preceded it. But, even though I felt this way, the message of the last page and its ability to bring certain themes (present or not in the novel) into relief was very impressive. I would give the book a lukewarm recommendation.
Rating: Summary: It's all CRAP! Review: It's me again from above. I decided the biology book comment was unfair. The biology book does not deserve to be classified as low as this book does. I am sorry for the mistake.
Rating: Summary: Hey! the stars only go down to 1! I'd give it a -100! Review: If you have not read this book, take advice from a trusted friend. DON'T DO IT! The book is so boring that I fell asleep just looking at the cover. Sometimes walking down the hall at school in my bag, it got to close and I collapsed on the floor. For crying out loud, my biology book is more exciting! If you have any mush in your head at all, DONT READ IT!
Rating: Summary: Give it 5 thumbs up! Review: "Seperate Peace" is a deeply meaningful novel and should be recommended to anyone who is interested in human psychology, especially during World War II. With the use of detailed symbolism and the narrator's reflections, the theme is clearly communicated to the reader. The characters are alive and the events are vivid. This is a novel anyone would cherish and wish to read over and over again.
Rating: Summary: A high school horror Review: The author's prose style is belabored, the dialogue is stilted, and the characters are one-dimensional. The symbolism is not woven into the story gracefully; instead, the author hits you over the head with it like a hammer. There are plenty of better choices for high school reading lists. Evidently, educators believe that if any enjoyment can be gleaned from the reading experience, it cannot be good for you.
