Summary: A Day No Books Were Read
Review: I've never read a book quite like "A Day No Pigs Would Die," and to tell you the truth, I hope I never do again. Not only was the book boring, (it was about a family of hillbillies, if that gives you any idea), but gruesome too, and I'm not sure it was appropriate for our age reading. For instance, the book intensely describes the mating of two pigs. "His privates were alert and ready to breed her." This was not necessary in the writing of this book and only made me want to put the book down (and I would have had I not been forced to continue by my teacher). And as if the book was not boring enough with it's main characters hillbillies, the author had to write chapters upon chapters of more or less nothing but playing with frogs and pigs. As you can probably tell from my writing tone, I would never recommend this book and have very good reason not to.

Summary: Slow But Humorous
Review: I think that A Day No Pigs Would Die is not a good book to read. Robert peck, the author, is telling the story of his life. I just hope his life really isn't as boring as the book. Although the book has some humorous parts like when his pants are ripped off by briar bushes, there are many disgusting and inappropriate parts like in chapter 13. Before our class read this book, I heard from other classes how graphic some parts in this book were. Also, this book does not have much of a plot. Robert's ideas are just thrown out in an un-organized way. I think that Robert should have had a professional writer, write down the events in Robert's life. I do not recommend this book for any ages to read. This book definitely does not keep your attention and is the slowest book I have ever read....

Summary: A Slow Day No Pigs Would Die
Review: In my opinion A Day No Pigs Would Die is a vary slow paced book, with graphic senses and a heavily developed plot. The book was vary slow with the many long conversations and the not-so-exciting events of most of the chapters. The only exceptions were chapters one and 10. One was vary suspenseful with Apron's birth and Rutland Fair was comical. One thing I noticed about the book was that the author didn't skip on the details of the gore, such as the 1st chapter and chapter 14. One thing the author did well on was the hugely developed plot. Using the seasons as an example of the circle of life. I give this book three stars. It's moving but I care little for slow- paced books.

Summary: Not a Cliff-Hanger
Review: "A Day No Pigs Would Die" is a well-written book that is representative of the time-period in which it was set. The book had very good descriptions that helped you see what was happening in the story. However, in some cases, these descriptions were not necessary, and made sections displeasing. In some sections, this made it rather enjoyable. "The wear of his labor had made them [the tools] smooth and shiny, where his fingers had held each one." The theme of maturity in this novel made it relatable to those who are coming of age. Robert's parents accepted him as an adult through his maturing behavior as he witnessed tragic events. "A Day No Pigs Would Die" uses dialect and events that are true to the time period in which it was set, making it more realistic to when Robert Peck was a child. The book is usually slow-paced, and description is unnecessary in some parts. In spite of this, this comical novel is realistically based on a true part of the author's life. This novel will have you crying on one page and laughing on another. I recommend this for those who like realistic events, and can handle tragedy.

Summary: What was He Thinking When He Wrote This Book???
Review: I thought that "A Day No Pigs Would Die" was a terrible book. "A Day No Pigs Would Die" was about a boy named, Robert who is rewarded after helping his neighbor with his soon to be new best friend, a piglet named Pinky. In this book you can "grow up" with Rob and experience tragic events that are supposedly a sign of maturing. I gave this book 1 star for what I think are very good reasons. First of all, I thought this book was VERY graphic and sad. Some parts I thought were graphic were, in the beginning of the book, chapter 13, when one of the characters was slaughtered and the part were they weasel Hussy. I think Robert Peck's purpose for writing this book was to tell about the hardships of a farmer and maturing but turned out to be an over rated graphic story about things that are hard to imagine in reality. Second, I thought this book was very dull and slow. I think the gory events were supposed to be exciting and the only chapter that was thrilling was when the main character Robert goes to his first fair. Because the story took place on a farm, it was a dull story because it didn't have much outside interaction beside with family and neighbors. Finally, I thought that this story was not very challenging. The accent was helpful to enhancing the book but it was easy to read. In conclusion, I would not recommended this book to anyone and think it should not be appropriate for school.

Summary: Not The Worst Book But I Wouldn't Recommend It
Review: I thought the book "A Day No Pigs Would Die" by Robert Newton Peck was mediocre. The book practically put me to sleep and if I wasn't forced to read it I wouldn't have. The characters were very boring and there was too much conversation. There was a lot of blood and gore in this book such as when the characters slaughtered Pinky. "His privates were alert and ready too breed her". This quote was about two pigs breeding and I think this part was unnecessary. On the plus side, this book did have a few humorous parts. An example is, when Rob goes to a fair and doesn't know what a pervert is, so he tries to find one. The book "A Day No Pigs Would Die" was not the worst book I've ever read, but it surely wasn't the greatest. Because the subject of the book was definitely not something I'm interested in, I probably would not recommend it to any of my friends. Two Stars.

Summary: To read or not to read?
Review: To read or not to read?
3 stars
A book full of laughs and humorous parts usually appeals to readers of all ages, but if there are some bloody and gruesome parts they may have second opinions about it. A Day No Pigs Would Die is about a Shaker boy named Rob, who received a piglet for helping his neighbor, Mr.Tanner with the birth of his twin bull cows. A humorous part of this book is when Rob goes to the Rutland fair and starts to look for "perverts", after Mrs.Tanner says to watch out for them. Although this book had a couple good laughs in it, I do not think that there was the necessary cause to include such graphic and violent details. For instance, when Rob and his father butcher Pinky ( his pig), there are so many gory details, that people who are not that great with blood, might not be able to handle. Overall, this book will give you a couple good laughs and some gory moments, that you will either enjoy or not like at all. I think that this book was okay, but I would not have read it if I had a choice. But if you like a little added country twist in your books, you'd like it.Good luck!

Summary: This Book Is Informative But Short.
Review: I thought that the book A Day No Pigs Would Die was a good book by the author Robert Newton. I don't read a lot and I thought that it was a good book for middle school students and up. It has content that I would have considered unusual or uncomfortable two or three years earlier. Robert Peck, the main character of the book goes through many changes over the course of this book (one year) and eventually becomes a man. This book contains little bits comedy, like in a part of the book when Rob goes to a fair with his neighbors and it shows his innocence, or with his vocabulary. Finally the story is has a large amount of thinking to it, you have to wonder what is going to happen in the next chapter. I chose four stars because this book informs me about the life of a shaker boy on a farm and how it is exciting and boring at the same time! If you like to read informative books than I recommend this book to you.

Review: Reader: Maryland

Eye opening, interesting, and tear jerking are just a few of the words that come to mind when I hear the title of the wonderful book, " A Day Know Pigs Would Die." It is so very interesting because of where the setting takes place, which is in a rural area near the town of Learning, Vermont. This makes the book fascinating because most people who read this book live in the suburban or urban areas. It gives us more domesticated people a better idea of rural. For example the religion called "shaker" opened my eyes to a different culture. This should make many people want to read it because you get to see a year in the lifestyle of "shakers". This is a tearjerker because when you live on a farm there are many deaths and births that occur. Rob the main character has to grow up pretty fast at the end of the book, which makes the pace of the book a little faster The book shows signs of maturity when Haven his father said "Rob you're a man now." Rob the main character has to grow up pretty fast at the end of the book, which makes the pace of the book a little faster. Learning about the austere lifestyle in itself will make you want to read this book. If you read or read this book I hope you enjoy/ed this book as much as I did and some of my fellow classmates.

Summary: This Book is Slow, But Interesting
Review: A Day No Pigs Would Die is a good book. The only reason I didn't really like it was because it was a little slow to get in to. I think the author did a good job portraying the characters, like papa and Rob. I think that as the book went along you really got to know the characters better. Some of the events were really funny, but some were really gross. One reason I gave it 3-stars was because it was very graphic at times and the author gave some very disturbing descriptions. It was mainly about the life of a poor Shaker boy who is very close to his pig. That is not really the kind of book I like because I'm not into books where a kid plays with his pig, but I did think the author did a good job writing the book. The book was overall a good book to read but it wasn't great. I think you should read this book if you're not reading anything at the present time.
