Summary: A great read which will surely bring a tear to your eye.
Review: This is a must read book for anyone who had or has a very loving, but somewhat troubled relationship with their father. It also offers a fine pictorial of country life in earlier times and a genuine insight into facing life's difficult but necessary decisions as we approach our adulthood. Peck's epitaph to his father is one I would love to have my children dedicate to me.

Summary: A book I came back to
Review: I was assigned to read this book when I was in 7th grade. I complained a lot about it, but I read it. Believe it or not, the book moved me to tears. Now I am 20 years old and I just purchased it to read again and again. It's a very powerful story about father/son love and it is told in a gentle warm manner. A must-read! (And re-read!)

Summary: I read this book in 6th grade and I really enjoyed it .
Review: For some one who doesn't like to read, this book wasn't bad at all. I liked the way it got more vivid and more interesting as you read further to the end. Personally, I like horror or comedy books and even though this one was sad it was still a book I will always remember. It really shows how easily pleased and upset children can be. Being a teenager myself, I can picture myslef in the little boys place and I think I would act the way he did in certain situations. I would recomend this book to any animal lover of any age. I think this book shows people that a human's connection and love with any animal is irreplacable.

Summary: A book not to be missed!
Review: This is one of the finest books I teach and one of the favorites of my students. Hilarious, poignant, memorable.

Summary: This was one of the better books I have read!!
Review: A Day No Pigs Would Die is about a young boy growing up and turning into a young man. During his summer vacation he has many adventures lined up himself. Although it has gross and violent scenes in this book, it brings out more of the characters personality and how they acted towards other people and animals. This book had a great impact on me. It made me think about how life has changed over the years. I'd recommend this book to anyone willing to read an adventure of a boy named Rob.

Summary: Horrible and Gruesome!
Review: I Totally Hated this book,me, being in 7th grade, feels that this book is not sutable for any one younger then the age of 14. After reading this book, I just though of how discusting it was! I hated it,I cryed most of the book. This book should not be for children of ONLY the 7th grade. It is deffinetly something that is true, but they were to graphic and some parts they just went a little over board! dont you think?!?!

Summary: I thought it was a great book.
Review: It was about a boy named Robert going through the hardships of manhood. He lived on a farm with his mom, dad and aunt Matty, who are poor. Robert raised and loved with all of his heart, a pig named Pinky. On a hot summer day Robert found out his father was going to die. The boy has to learn how to take care of the farm.

Summary: numerous descriptions of gross violent scenes
Review: The description and remarks on the back of the paperback book I read lead me to think I was about to read a wonderful coming of age book that was "glowing with warmth". I found this book anthing but that. It has graphic violent descriptions that add nothing to the factually weak story of a so called "Shaker family". I would never recommend this book to anyone. As an adult I found it disturbing-as a parent of a young avid reader I am now even more aware of not judging a book by its cover or at least the words on the cover!

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Violent and inaccurate - this is one book you should avoid!
Review: When you read a book where the main character has the same name as the author, you would probably expect it to be autobiographical. But in this case, it is not. Shakers do not have families; they are celibate. In fact, Shakers never were even in Vermont and there is no book of Shaker. Aside from the base false premises of this book, the graphically violent incidents are also worth avoiding. From the opening scene of the cow giving birth to the scenes training weasel dogs by nailing in a barrel or violent mating of pigs, the lengthy, graphic descriptions can be quite disturbing. There are harsh realities of growing up on farms, but this book sensationalizes more than it informs. There are so many other quality books about farming and boys coming "of age" - choose one of them instead.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: I think it was a pointless, dumb book - read Redwall instead
Review: It was a sad, sick, gross, depressing, ugly, totally pointless book. I can't see how anyone could rate this "5" unless they're weird. If you really want good books- read Redwall tales
