Review: This book is about a town who gets a little corrupt when the KKK invades. It was kind of hard to understand because of the form it was written in and i thought the story was a little weak, but it was still okay.

Summary: Witness- everyone should read
Review: I think "Witness", is a great book! I would definately reccomend this book to anyone who likes stories about what happened when the K.K.K. was around. This book is a very sad story, but unfortunately someone must tell the story, and make sure that we never do that again. I have read a lot of Karen Hesse's book, and every one i read, I just keep on getting impressed. It seems my impression can never get negative after any book!

Review: Although sometimes weird and only a little confusing i still thought it was a good book. The word use/choice was very unique. I really liked Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse so i thought I'd give another one of her books a try. I would recommend it to people if they are looking for something different to read and also something tragic. The story is about an African American girl and a young Jewish girl living in the 1920's during the years of the Ku Klux Klan and how they are destroying the little town. It is also seen through the point of view from other towns people and what they are dealing with and what goes on in their lives.

Summary: Witness Scores Four Stars
Review: In Witness, Karen Hesse recreates the drama of a small Vermont town in 1928 as the Klu Klux Klan spreads their terror up north. A young black child (Esther) living with her dad and a friend, Sara Chickering, (a white woman) are the target of many of the KKK attacks. The KKK eventually dies out when nobody accepts their views anymore, but not before one former KKK member kills Esthers father and takes his own life. Overall i felt like the book was well written and a fun read. Karen Hesse's poetic style tells the story one person at a time through their eyes. It goes through the cast over and over as the plot develops. This free lance style makes it feel as if you are reading into the characters' private journal. Hesse uses rare dialouge between characters, so in the event that there is dialouge, it is easy to read and keep pace with. The strong storyline was done so well that I can see it being appropriate for all ages. Overall, I rate it with a strong four stars and reccomend it as a strong, quick read.

Summary: Novel Review
Review: The story takes place in a Vermont town in 1924. The Ku Klux Klan is in town jeopardizing everything and everyone. The characters try to do their best by living with the Klan in town, but it is hard with people dying and people blaming each other for the deaths. Merlin Van Tornhout, who is a part of the Klan and left town because he would not and could not poison the water well. Thinks the Klan will come after him so he left. He then came back because of the death of Johnny Reeves, who committed suicide by jumping off of the bridge and smashing into the water below. Meanwhile Merlin gets the blame for shooting and killing Mr. Hirsh, the father of Ester Hirsh, age six and Jewish.
The story portrays a feeling of wonder and amazement about how hard it is just to live in that time period, focusing on the characters and how each individual feels about the whole situation. I think that it is an awesome book because it is easy for me to understand everything fully.
Overall, I think that it is a great book for all ages. The author wants people to not judge each other to that extreme in their community, so much that the Ku Klux Klan and others pull apart the small town. I would definitely recommend this book to all of my peers. Everyone needs to read a book like this one.

Review: When you think about the 1920's, you think of the Booming Economy , right? Then was a time for fun,right? Wrong! Not if you didn't appear '100% American'to the Ku Klux Klan.Times were bad for Leanora Sutter and Esther Hirsh, when the Klan targets them. Leanora copes, but hates the mean white kids at school. But poor Esther doesn't understand why these people hate her, why she can't stay with her friend Sara Chickering, why her mother took the heaven train. When the Klan takes action, the girls are frightened. Will they ever sleep in peace again? Will The Klan ever leave Vermont?

Summary: Review for Witness
Review: I liked how this story was written in free verse poetry. That is diffrenet from many other books that you read. I also liked that this book was historical but fiction at the same time. It used real situation and groups (the k.k.k) and fictional people. Each character had its own way of speaking and it made you concentrate on what was going on. This book really teaches you about the past and how people teated each other. I rate this book a 5. It is so awesome and it teaches you too. I also recommend that other kids should read this book as well.

Review: The book Witness deserves four stars, and here is why. Witness starts out kind of slow, but as you get farther into the book, you will transfer from laying down, to seating on the edge of your seat. While the books setting is 1924 in Vermont,six year old Esther Hirsh, and twelve year old eonora Sutter have to learn how to adjust to a new life of the Klu Klux Klan turning people against African Americans and jews, and many other religions that the klan is not.While the klan is invading their small and mostly peaceful town,the towns folk are running into more and more problems.What will happen to young Esther Hirsh and her dad? Will the Sutters get kicked out of town by the klan? Find out in thise hair-raising book!
