Rating: Summary: Beauty Sleep keeps you WIDE awake Review: ...: I think all of you out there should read this book. It has a meaning within the book. In fact, it has several meanings. Of course, all books have meanings in them. But this is a book with a true meaning...one that is important. This meaning is related to life and love, etc. It has quite a bit of vocabulary and concepts and phrases may be difficult to understand. Still, it is good. It is a twisted version of Sleeping Beauty. I believe that it is extremely well written. It has unexpected events and suspense as well. A good combination indeed. I finished this book in one day. That has got to stand for something since I pretty much hate reading for the most part. But back to the point, I think this is a really good book, one that teaches you an important aspect in life and so on. It's extremely rare that I give something, especially a book, 5 stars! Story: Aurore is a princess who has been cursed since the day of her christening. Cousin Jane puts a spell on her, the ever famous spell, and Chantel tries to make the spell better so that Aurore will not die. As she grows up, she bonds with her cousin Oswald. When she turns 16, chaos reins for many days in her kingdom and strange things happen...raining blood...cats giving birth to ravens...Aurore decides it is time to flee. She runs into the forbidden forest that is said to be enchanted. There, she meets a man named Ironheart. She joins him on a quest that brings her places she never knew...within the forest..and within her heart. Despite the spells and curses cast upon her creating her destiny, Aurore discovers that love is the most powerful magic of all...
Rating: Summary: Beauty Sleep - Not Just a Fairtale! Review: a good book by a good author, nothing more, nothing less. the fact tht she ends up marrying her own cousin was a little disturbing! i thought that the authors approach to the 100 year sleep wasn't very good. i mean, with one step she goes through 100 years. plus, one of my favorite parts in the original story was where she and her family actually sleep! this book was average, nothing more.
Rating: Summary: a very worthwhile read, with a nice ending Review: After reading this book, then reading the reader reviews, I'm compelled to give my own opinion. This was a lovely retelling of the story, Sleeping Beauty. In her narration, the author offers up some important life's lessons in a very novel way (no pun intended), not to be missed. I picked this book up to quickly scan its contents before purchasing it for my twelve year old daughter, then found myself unable to put it down. The beginning wordplay was somewhat challenging: It was an effort to read and reread the same sentences to discern the storyline. However, once the beginning was established the plot developed a comfortable rhythm. About that ending...it was not totally unexpected (don't read on if you wish to remain clueless as to how it ends) and there was nothing objectionable in the least bit given the marital customs of that period in time. The ending wasn't disappointing. Simply put, I would say that it was...Charming!
Rating: Summary: disgusting retelling of Sleeping Beauty Review: Ew! This book is sooo gross! I'm not gonna bother with the plot because it's already been said in the other reviews. Aurore just talks too much in the first half of the book, and her parents are basically non-existent. The prince added some appeal but it was her cousin (yes, cousin) that she winds up with--and who I hated the most! He was just too nasty and bitter to even love or be loved. What was Aurore thinking? I couldn't help but thinking that Oswald put a spell on her to make her fall in love with him 'cause she hates him until the end--then all of a sudden she loves him and they have kids together! The story seemed too far-fetched for me and I found myself crying over the fact that I actually bought this junk! I wanted a refund so badly, it wasn't even funny! James zipped through it and didn't give it a second thought--only to tell you this, "Stick to the original and skip this junk!" I agree! I was hoping that Auror and the prince would wind up together but they didn't, and I was sooo disappointed! I hated Oswald! I didn't like him at all! And another thing (and I HAVE to say this), she married her cousin Oswald! Gross!
Rating: Summary: Sleeping Beauty Review: i just happened upon this book accidentally when i was looking at the story-tellers daughter for the hundredth time. When i saw this book next to it, i picked it up. It was a sleeping beauty tale. I love fairy tales, sleeping beauty being one of my favorites. I have read so many different versions of the story, i was expecting this book to be more of a generic version. However, I was delightfully surprised. When i took it home, i read it right away. I could not put it down. Page after page, I couldn't wait to see what would happen. Of course i knew she was going to have to prick her finger sometime, but the author told the story in such a way that i was slightly surprised in the manner in which it happened. Not only was the story uniquely told, it was also told from the view point of the princess aurore. this book managed to pull off a unique version of sleeping beauty while still maintaining the fairytale feel. I really enjoyed this book, and will read it again.
Rating: Summary: ~!Love it!~ Review: I liked this book. Sleeping Beaty is my fav disney princess movie. But the book is really twisted. It is great because you never know how anything is going to happen. It is a great story with magic.I have to say the ending i didnt like... it is kinda odd. But im not going to give it away! it is a really great book and if you like it read "Snow" by jayme lynn! It is a really good book that i hope alot of people do read!
Rating: Summary: I didn't get it Review: I personally didn't like the book. The ending was a little too weird for my taste. My question: Does Aurore actually end up with Oswald? Or did I just skim this book over too fast. It could have been such a good book (I liked it until the end) but the ending? I didn't really like it.
Rating: Summary: Sleeping Beauty Review: Okay, so I felt like a cheesy read again. I had read "The Storyteller's Daughter" and felt like this would be similar, since C. Dokey wrote both.
Yes, it was good. It was a good fairy tale twist. But not exactly one that made (me) feel like I was transported into the fairy tale world.
PLOT: You know how the story begins. Aurore is cursed to prick her finger on a spindle...but instead of death, 100 years of sleep, thanks to the spell of another woman. So when Aurore is sixteen, she decides that in order to save her kingdom she must leave. Fleeing into le ForĂȘt (sp?) she finds herself transported into an enchanted forest where she meets up with a young man looking to awaken a beautiful sleeping princess. How odd! hmmm....so she travels with him until of course, her curse is done......she is kissed......and........
You'll see.
Positive Points: I loved the enchanting forest...I wish more of the story took place there. I also felt that Cameron Dokey did a wonderful job at creating a sense of wonder...in her characters and in the world they lived.
Negative Points: I felt that the book was too short...that there wasn't any room to create an attachment to the story.
Recommended? Sure, if you enjoy the pure excitement that comes with exploring twists on fairy tales. My opinion is only here to help you...not to tell you as a statement what you'll see in the book when you read it. You may love it like everyone else. But I do whole-heartedly recommend reading "The Storyteller's Daughter". It's pure magic.
My Age Recommendation: Any Age. [G] I don't recall anything that should stop any kid from enjoying this. :)
Happy Reading!
Rating: Summary: the original was better Review: this book was good ans all it was just to forced if i may say so myself the princess is a little to bold for my liking and the story is slow in some places my advice to you: go rent it from the library:)
Rating: Summary: Sort of predictable, but has a likable heroine? Review: This book was not very memorable. It takes the story of Sleeping Beauty, now named Aurore, and how at the age of 16, instead of pricking her finger, strange happenings afflict the whole kingdom where she lives. She decides to leave and enter the nearby Forest, where no one dares set foot. It is here that she meets Prince Ironheart, who is on a quest as well. The two band together to try and break their curses. While I admit the fact Aurore is very likable, I think the other characters and predicable plot could have used some sprucing up.
