Rating: Summary: Fabulous! Review: I absolutely loved this book! It has just the right combination of super-natural, and regular teen fiction. Unlike some books of its genre, "Shadowland", by Jenny Carroll, doesn't offend Christians. She finds a way to respect religion while still making a good ghost story. This book is about a 16-year-old girl who's mother has just gotten remarried. She has to deal with a new stepfather, and THREE new stepbrothers, two of which are complete morons, and a completely new school on the other side of the country. Oh, yeah, and on top of ALL that, she sees ghosts. Not only can she see them, but she's in charge of getting the to go to "the other side". You HAVE to read this book! It's fabulous.
Rating: Summary: Teen Mom Loved this Series! Review: I picked up this book one day when I was helping my daughter find something new to read -- she was having difficulty, but this book seemed interesting to me.
I read it -- LOVED IT! And bought the rest of the series -- I finally talked my 14 year old to read it and she LOVED IT!! So we had to go out and get the other si-fi/horror/romance series she's written; 1-800-WhereAreYou -- Also GREAT!
I love books that allow for the teen girl character to be strong and confident and yet able to capture the sweet romance of first love.
Rating: Summary: READ IT Review: In Shadowland Susannah Simon is uprooted from her lifelong home, NYC, and brought to California to be with her mom and new stepdad. She left behind her best, and only, friend and, worst of all is moving into an old house and attending an even older school. For most people this wouldn't be a problem, but Susan is different, Susan can see dead people. And the older the building the more dead people. Luckily, when she get's to the house there is only one. He is a "dangerously" attractive Spanish ghost who's been "living" in Susan's room for about 100 years. He also refuses to leave. Things get stranger when Susan goes to school and is being escorted by Father Dominic to her locker and finds that the previous owner, who had shot her head off when her boyfriend dumped her, waiting and ,even more surprising, demanding to know who she was from Father Dom. Which explained the lack of ghosts in the really really old building. Apparently Heather didn't want to move on. Fortunately, Susan could be a little more insistent than any priest. Unfortunately, Heather was of the mind that if she couldn't have her exboyfriend than no one could. So Susan has to get rid of a murderous ghost before she get's to the murder and get an obstinate ghost out of her bedroom. So much for a new start. A really great book. I love all of Jenny Carroll's.
Rating: Summary: READ IT Review: INCREDIBLE!!!! this one of the best books ever written. seriously. Suze, who can communicate w/ the undead, is forced to move to Carmel in sunny CA to live w/ her mom's new husband and his 3 sons, Sleepy, Dopey, and Doc.(aka Jake, Brad, and David).plus side: there's a totally hot guy living in her new room...who happens to be dead. Suze handles it very well; she deals w/ her annoying stepbrothers, guy problems(roommate Jesse), and making her mom happy while simultaneously saving her new school(which is Catholic,by the way)from a vengeful cheerleader ghost, all in designer clothes w/ perfect hair, thank you very much. buy it. read it. you'll love it. trust me.
Rating: Summary: I wish I could get ahold of it Review: Jenny Carroll (a pseudonym--this author is really Meg Cabot) is such a unique author which is the first thing that makes her books interesting. She has a way of writing in first person so that when a chapter ends, the character is planning on doing something, and when the next chapter begins, it is as if the character already did it. It makes it almost like a journal, which I imagine is a skill she picked up writing The Princess Diaries. She also has a habit of using colorful phrases that make it quite humorous. Now, the entire concept of this series: Teenage girl with a gift of helping ghosts falls in love with a ghost. It seems like such a classic concept that surely someone would have thought of it before, but no one has. In this particular book in the series, This teenage girl, Suze, moves into a new house, meets the ghost that lives there, and begins going to a new school. Only the school is being haunted by the dead girlfriend of a jock. Suze also discovers that the principal of her school is a mediator--just like her. I think this series is wonderful for anyone. I read it when I was 16 and my mother also read it and found it just as wonderful. Its a good one for people of all ages.

Rating: Summary: Darn Adictive Review: These books are really adictive. I should let you know, I am not the target audience for this book. I'm a 21 year old girl, so for any older readers this review will probably benifit them the most.
Okay, I liked it. These books are quite adictive, and short reads. I averaged one a day, maybe two if I didn't have a lot of time to read. There's a lot of humor, and it's quite good.
Now, the reason it gets a star deduction? Most of the set up is a rip from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. An average teenage girl with super powers that doesn't want them and treats them with sarcastic humor? Mves to a new school after getting into a lot of trouble at her old with the police and what not but can't tell the truth it was cuz of her power? Gets a new mentor cuz of move and said new school? New boy and girl good friend. Boy who's got a crush on her, and a girl who's got a crush on him? She jones a guy who is what she helps/fights?
Okay, yeah, the Buffy similarities are a little overwhelming. Except this is about a chick who sees ghosts and helps them cross over, not one who fights vampires. Still, though the book wins you over. They are certainally adictive. Although try and buy the copies with the old covers. The new aditions are coming out soon and I saw the covers on Jenny Carroll's (AKA Meg Cabot's) website and they make the books look really lame. I don't know why they had to do that. I understand printing them under Meg Cabot (Since the Princess Diaries books are so popular, they must want to try and capitalize off that) but really! These are good ghost story books. Oh well. I recomend this for a good light read, and hey they don't cost that much so why not give it a try?
