Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Fantastic Fantasy
Review: The Golden Key is a spectacular story for 10-14 year olds - and perhaps older. This story revolves around a young girl named Krystyna, who is a samoyva, a group of females with special powers. These powers can be used for good or evil, and part of the story centers on Krystyna's dilemma regarding the use of her powers. Krystyna also has a small golden key that is crucial to the resolution of the novel.

The major conflict of the story involves the battle between the white samoyvas and the black samoyvas - a tale of good versus evil in the classic tradition. Krystyna is a splendid role model for girls. She has courage, brains, tenacity and compassion. Her willingness to sacrifice for the good, even when she's scared, is commendable.

The novel contains a number of memorable characters, from Krystyna's Aunti Marge, to the delightful servant, Hector, to the butler Rodney that Krystyna meets in a strange nightmare that almost ends her quest.

A good read that will keep children entertained and enthralled.
