Rating: Summary: You will love it!!!!! Review: In Phoning a Dead Man, by Gillian Cross, John Cox a demolition expert, has been killed on the job in Russia. His sister Haley and is fiancée Annie, who is wheelchair-bound, want to see the sight for themselves. They decide to go do their own investigation. Upon their arrival, very rich Russian men whom Annie suspects are involved in the Russian mafia assist them. She knows she needs them to assist her and Haley around so she doesn't say anything. Meanwhile, while they are investigating John's death, he is alive somewhere in the forests of Russia searching for answers. John somehow suffered memory loss and all he knows is someone is after him to kill him. He has no idea who he is, where he is, or how he got there. Annie decides to have his cell phone traced because it was never recovered. They come up with a lead on where his phone is. The Russian men want to find the phone and John so bad, that they torture people who helped John so they could get to him. John was staying with Frosya and she spoon fed him and taught him how to walk again. The next person who helped him was willing to die for him. John is soon found and he gets his memory back but losses a very good friend. He might have his memory back, but will he ever be the same?........This is a very interesting book that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It has a lot of irony. Every time you think something will happen the complete opposite happens. I recommend this book to anyone who can read at a high school level. You will love it!!!!
Rating: Summary: the alex review Review: Phoning a dead man by Gillian cross. This book is about a man that was believed to be involved with a Russian mob. He was also believed dead. His two sister where going on a trip to Siberia to see the site that he died at, since he was a demolitions expert who blew him self up. When they had gotten there they saw what had become of there deer old brother. But when they were there they had found clues that might have said that there brother had faked his death. Near by in a distant area there was an English man that was found by a young girl who had broughten him into her home and asked her parents to take care of him. The next day she was asked if she had seen the Englishman. Those people were the police. She had said that she had seen him but that he had left the area. But later on in the book they are rejoined brother and sisters but they know that they must split up since they must go there own paths for instance the brother must continue with his job and his sisters must go home and back to school. I would give this plot a 3 out of 5 stars. The protaginast character changes between the brother and the sisters. The brothers behavior in this book was a drunk man that didn't know know what had happened in his life. The sisters characteristics are that the younger is more caucious since she had broken her leg and the older sister is like no way am I sisters with her. Characters I would give a 4 out of 5 since it was intresting how it ties in with the book. Some parts in the books to rember are that the part when the brother is found/ introduced was very shocking since you thought that this book is acutaly about girls really phoning there dead brother. And another part to rember is the last letter where its telling the sisters that he's ok. I think over all this is a 3 out of 5 star book since it wasn't relly that intresting until the end. But I would recommend the book solider boys since its got mystery and that might be a litter easier to understand.
