Rating: Summary: Flipped Review: 'Flipped', by Wendelin Van Draanen, was one of the best stories I have have ever read. Juli Baker, a sensative, overwhelmingly hyper girl, has liked Bryce Loski, a calm, shallow boy, since she moved across the street from him in the second grade. He has secretly despised her while she has not so secretly admired him. Juli isn't the most ordinary girl you have ever met. She raises chickens in her back yard and has a deep liking for a certain sycamore tree she passes everyday on the way to her bus stop. She has a family secret that she never knew about that will change her life and the way she thinks. Everyday for six years, Bryce has attempted to avoid her and her chicken eggs, fearing they have salmonella poisoning. Eventually, with the help of Bryce's grandfather, Chet, they both realize what they feel has been wrong all along. This romantic comedy switches from Juli to Bryce, each telling their own side of the story. It is definitely a worth while read and taught me that what you see is not always what you get. You need to look beneath the surface to see what is really there. Wendelin Van Draanen is an extremely gifted writer, and is also the author of the Sammy Keys series. I loved the style of her writing and how it switched from person to person. It felt like the characters were speaking directly to you. The characters are easy to relate to. It tells of both an eighth grade girl and an eighth grade guy and their struggles in school and with their adolescence. Every teen that ever reads this book will love it. A friend recommended it to me, and thinking it was just another ordinary book, took it. From the first couple pages, I knew it would be an excellent book. I couldn't put it down. The book was at a perfect level for and eighth grader. It was a little challenging, but I could still understand it. From the start, Juli's unusual habits and interests weird-ed Bryce out, but by the eighth grade, everything is flipped, and neither of them know what to think anymore. 'Flipped' had a very interesting and original storyline. Juli was the 'odd' child, and Bryce was the 'normal' one. He soon realizes that he and his family are not that average, and he would much rather have Juli's family. I must admit, the ending was very predictable; they were both going to get together and live happily ever after. The ending wasn't as important as the rest of the story, though. The storyline was simply hilarious. It was a page-turning novel that I would read over and over again. I recommend it to readers of all ages. It's not only a good novel for teens, but for younger and older people too. It shows how life really is in middle school. If you want to look into the life of a 14 year old, then read 'Flipped'. It's not your ordinary novel.
Rating: Summary: ~flipped~ Review: Author Wendelin van Draanen does an awesome job with this romantic comedy. Eighth grade characters Juli Baker and Bryce Loski go head to head in this novel that has the ability to give you both sides of the story. This book is great since it connects with both younger and older teens. It has the ability to give you that feeling of being in middle school again and having that ultimate first crush that you could never forget as well as that first kiss you had always dreamed of. I highly recommend this novel for anyone who has ever had a first crush that they just couldn't understand even as they got older.
Rating: Summary: Have you ever read a book told in two prespectives? Review: Different perspectives let the reader know the different feelings of each character. In "Flipped" by Wedelin Van Draanen, the book is told in two perspectives of Juliana and Bryce. The new boy, Bryce, hates Juliana, the girl who lives across the street. She is in love with him, and she tries everything from talking to him, to giving him chicken eggs to make him like her. I would recommend "Flipped" because the book is so much like reality. The book shows how one could like someone so much; they would pretty much do anything to make one like them back. Another reason I would recommend the book is because its sadly comical, both Juliana and Bryce were clueless about each other. Finally "Flipped" is told in two perspectives, which makes the book easier to understand.
Reading books you can relate to, you usually find interest in reading. Many people can relate to liking someone and not have them liking you back. No matter how much Juliana liked Bryce he did not seem to like her back. One day Juliana found the eggs she gave Bryce in the garbage and she got offended. She stopped talking to him. Bryce tried to start talking to her again; was it because he missed the attention, or was he starting to like her?
The second reason I would recommend "Flipped" is because it is sadly comical. Both Juliana and Bryce were clueless about each other yet they had total different opinions. Bryce's opinion about Juliana was unclear at first. He did not like her, but he liked when she talked to him. Juliana's opinion about Bryce was that he was a nice guy that she liked a lot.
The last reason you should read "Flipped" is because the author told the book in two perspectives. Reading a book that is told in two point of views may help the readers understand the book better and the characters personality and feelings. For example: the book tells the story in Bryce's perspective and then Juliana's perspective.
You should read "Flipped" because you can relate to the conflicts that happen in the book to yourself in everyday life, the book is sadly comical, and because the different perspectives make the book much easier to understand. My favorite part in the book was when the men wanted to cut down the tree but Juliana would not let them. That event was my favorite part because you were able to see how one girl could have so much courage and stand up for something she believes in. I would recommended "Flipped" to any teenager who likes to read about relationships and the problems people go through to try and make someone like them.
Rating: Summary: Crushing on Flipped Review: Do you like romantic books? Do you like books so realistic that you can imagine that you're right there? If you do, Flipped by Van Draanen, is a great book to read. This story is all about teenagers dealing with their differences and exploring their compassion for each other. These teenagers- Juliana and Bryce- aboard an emotional rollercoaster, throughout this book. You might think Flipped is a typical romance, but there is so much more to it than just that. You should read Flipped because it is very easy to relate to, and it was a great teenage romance story. There was only one reason why I didn't like this book. That was because the very end wasn't so great, and I wish there was more to it.
Relating to a book makes it really fun to read. Flipped was easy to relate to because it's all about having a crush on someone and seeing how far they will go to have the other person notice them or even like them back. Almost every person from young ages, up had a kind of crush like Juliana and Bryce, I know I have. This book was so great because while you read Bryce's thoughts and feelings, you might agree or remember a time when that happened to you. After reading Bryce's perspective on some events, you then read Juliana's. While you do that, you understand how she is going through and feel sorry for her. You might also say how you know exactly how she feels, or that you were in that position too.
I normally don't like to read, unless they are exactly what kind of book I like. I usually fall in love with romance books, or diaries. Lucky for me, Flipped had both. Being a teenager myself, it was great to read a teenage romance story. This kind of book was easier to realize what was going on, or understand how people felt. Flipped is great, because after reading what happens after everything, you realize how fun it was to read. One example is when Juliana talks about how she wants Bryce to notcie her, but everything she tries doesn't work. Sometimes, I feel the same way, and it is a nice feeling to read something and know what they mean.
Although I loved this book so much, there was one problem about it that I didn't like. In my opinion, the very end should have had more to it. The book was good, and the point got across, but if there was just another paragraph or page, it would have been great. The end didn't really explain everything that just happened, and I wish it would have.
Flipped is a great book to read for many reasons like it was easy to relate to, and it was a great teenage romance story. Although there was one thing I didn't like, the very end, the book turned out very good. If I was allowed to add something to the book in any way, I would make the ending a little bit longer. My favorite part in this book was when I understood the meaning of the title. After reading Juliana and Bryce's opinions, it was great to look at everything and get into a good mood. Anyone that had a crush on someone, or felt a way different from the other person liking them would like this book. More teenagers would like this book than any other age group. That is because Flipped is about teenagers, and their feelings.
Rating: Summary: Flipping Fantastic Review: Have you ever liked someone so much you'd do just about anything to please him? Then Flipped, by Wendelin Van Draanen is the book for you. Flipped is about a girl who is so in love with the new kid in town and would do anything for him to notice her. She likes him for years; will he ever like her back? Flipped is a good book because the title has many different meanings, you can easily relate to the topic, and it sends a good message.
Flipped, you may look at the title and think its named that because the book flips from the boys perspective to the girls perspective but as you read further you will find out this title has many meanings. One example would be the chick on the cover of the book has an important meaning to the title, and that's just one of the many reasons it has.
In this book, you can easily relate to the topics. It goes from being a seven year old and in love, to being a fourteen year old going into high school and being in love. There are many conflicts that you can easily understand. When you are a fourteen year old and in love you learn heart ache, the feeling of talking to that special someone and how nervous you get when your around them. This book will let you see what it is like to love someone that long and all conflicts and disappointments it can bring.
The message sent through the story is another good aspect of the book. "Don't judge others," those three simple words would change so many things for teenagers being in school. Everyone knows how fast you'll be judged for one tiny mistake you make. When you meet someone they can act totally different to when you get to know them. For example in the book Bryce automatically judges Julianna the minute he meets her before he even gets to know her. Flipped sends a good message through the story for teenagers because it goes on a lot in high school.
Flipped was a good book because of the title having more then one meaning, you can relate to all the things that go on, and it sends an important message to the reader. There weren't many parts of the book that needed changing except the ending wasn't all that good, it should have went on to tell a little more but it was alright. I recommend this book to teenagers who have liked someone so much through many years of their lives, or do not want to be judged by other people before anyone gets to know them.
Rating: Summary: Good for your kids Review: I went into this book thinking it was going to be the typical highschool romance story. A friend of mine had reccommended this when I had asked her for some book suggestions. The way she put it, it sounded very interesting. This book is about Bryce and Juli. They have been neighbors for years and Juli has a huge crush on Bryce and his brilliant blue eyes. Bryce thinks Juli is downright annoying. Throughout the story you you will read a chapter of Bryce's POV and then Juli's POV on the same situation. I guess I should have read a few paragraphs before purchasing this book. Although the lesson was important, this is not a book for somebody that is in 10, 11, 12 grade. This book is about middle-schoolers and it is for middle-schoolers. I gave it three stars because it was cute and made me chuckle a few times and is good for a much younger crowd than myself. I just happened to not enjoy it as much considering that I'm looking for something more adult. Also, the ending left you at kind of a cliff hanger and that really kind of made me upset. Nonetheless, this is a great book for your kids an junior high student but don't buy it for a highschooler.
Rating: Summary: Flipped, is great Review: This may seem silly, but i bought the book because i liked the upside down baby chick on the cover. Then i went to read it, and it was so interesting. I loved how Wendelin put the story in two different perspectives, one of Julianna and one of Bryce. I also loved how she would have Bryce tell one part of the story, and then Juli would tell the same part again, but in her perspective. This story was so good, you wouldn't beleive how hopeful it made you feel. You felt happy when one was happy, but when one was angry, you felt there anger inside of you as well. It is amazing how books can do that to you. This book is about a girl named Juli and a boy named Bryce. Bryce is just moving into a house nextdoor to Juli. They are first graders at the time and it goes until they are in the eighth grade. Juli at first sight loves Bryce, but he has different feelings. He thinks she is annoying, plain, and dull. As time goes on, many events happen that change their minds, and as they grow up, many things change. If you like books, at all, you need to read this book. I guaruntee you will love it.
