Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good for teens
Review: This book was on the adult shelf and when I started reading it, I thought it was rather simplistic until I realized that it was a Young Adult book.

After that, I viewed it differently and think that it is something that many 7th to 12th graders could benefit by reading. Even if not for themselves, so that they can have some understanding of what depression is and how it can happen to anyone at any time.

The case histories included by the author were helpful in giving an understanding of what depression is and how it affects people differently. The symptoms and signs are thoroughly described, as are the treatment options.

Most important is the knowledge that depression can be long-term, not just feeling bad for a day or two because someone did poorly in a race or on a test.

Throughout the book, the author emphasizes that depression is treatable and that seeking help is the most important thing one can do for oneself. This positive approach is very important to teens, I believe.
