Rating: Summary: Unbelievable, but exciting. Review: I thought this book was exciting and educational, but quite unbelievable about what kids are truly able to accomplish on their own.
Rating: Summary: Good adventure story, but beware of graphic violence Review: John and his father had just sailed on a ship for an adventure. During the trip, a terrible storm hit and destroyed it. I seemed as thought John was the only surviver. Everyone else on the ship died. The worse part is, he found out it was some group of people on the island that tried to wreck the ship on purpose. The people spared his life, and John lived there for some time now. He met a friend named Marry. But during the days, John discovers many secrets. He may even find out his father is still alive, but would he be able to save him? I liked this book because it had adventure, and action almost throughout the whole book. It never became boring and left a lot of suspension in the book that made me want to read more. Like if someone was going to die or not. The whole book was fun and was even more interesting as I read. The part I liked the most about the book was when John was running for his life from the pirates. It had all this action and the author described it very well. I chose this book, because many people read it, and said it was fun and interesting, especially my teacher. She said that the book was great and fun. My parents also encouraged me to read it. My dad said that he used to read about stories like this, and it was great. That's why I got it.
Rating: Summary: Good adventure story, but beware of graphic violence Review: Many reviewers have commented that this is a good adventure book, but I did not see any reviews that noted that it is quite graphically violent. I used this book recently for a mother-son book group of 5th grade boys. Several of the boys noted that they found the book very disturbing in its graphic imagery -- murders, hangings, rats, etc. and felt that the book was less enjoyable because of it. I would issue a warning that this book is not suitable for young or sensitive children. It is an "easy read" aside from some tough vocabulary, but is very intense.
Rating: Summary: Not a boring book! Review: The boook Wreckers is an excellent story of adventure and courage. This book is about a kid named John who is on a boat when it crashes into some rocks. The crash kills everyone but john and his dad. John has to go looking for his dad and not get killed in the process. This is not a book for unexpereansed readers. So if you like exciting books read this story.
Rating: Summary: OK... really a 3.5 Review: This book starts off on the sea on the boat the Isle of Skye. John and his dad are on cargo ship to take wine to another place to trade. There was a storm and the crew saw some lights. They thought they were leading them to safety but once they went to the lights, the ship became wrecked... I liked the books suspense. I read this book straight on after I came to the interesting parts. The realism is a main factor that makes this book so good or fun to read. I think 6th graders and people older should read this book.
Rating: Summary: An Action Packed Book! Review: This was a good book and very action packed. It is about a teenager named John who is on a ship with his father and the crew of the ship. One night, in a really hectic storm, the captain lost track of direction and didn't know where to go. Suddenly they saw a light meaning it was a harbor and was o.k. to dock their ship. Unfortunately it was not a harbor, but a rock-laden shore. It was too late to turn back, and the boat was torn apart on the rocks. When John woke up he was on a sandy shore. He saw some men walk past him to another survivor in the water. Then, instead of helping that man, they dunk his head in the water and drowned him. John starts to now wonder if the wreck was really an accident. To find out, read this great book by Iain Lawrence, The Wreckers.
