Summary: Greenhaven Press has another winner!
Review: Publishing high quality resources for libraries and classrooms since 1969, Greenhaven Press presents thought-provoking texts for middle and high school students, including such popular series as Opposing Viewpoints, Current Controversies, and Contemporary Issues Companion.

Contemporary Issues Companions provide readers with a wealth of information. Focusing on important social issues, each anthology examines its subject in a variety of ways, from personal accounts and case studies to pertinent factual and statistical articles to the most relevant commentaries and overviews. A perfect resource for both students and the general reader.

One of the latest Contemporary Issues Companion is Extraterrestrial Life (144 pages) compiled by Tamara L. Roleff, Book Editor. This 6" x 9" volume examines mankind's obsession with the idea of aliens, presenting a selection of articles on the possibility of and search for life on other planets, close encounters with aliens, and how UFOs have influenced our culture. Extraterrestrial Life is divided into four chapters: (1) Is There Life Beyond Earth?, (2) The Search For Extraterrestrial Intelligence, (3) Close Encounters and (4) UFOs and Culture.

There are a total of twenty-two individual articles and essays, many of them by heavy-hitters: Joel Achenbach, Guillermo Gonzalez, Peter D. Ward and Donald Brownlee, SETI Institute, Mark J. Carlotto, Shaun Cronin and David Vaughan, William J. Broad, Seth Shostak, George C. Baldwin, Robert A. Goerman, Paul Halpern, Richard F. Haines, Philip J. Klass, Freddy Silva, Matt Ridley, Patrick D. MacKondy, Laura, Susan Blackmore, Daniela Giordano, Phil Patton, Paul Meehan, and Irving Hexham and Krla Poewe. These contributors are college professors, astronomers, physicists, radio astronomers, nuclear engineers, research scientists for NASA, paleontologists, writers for the New York Times and Washington Post, UFO experiencers and recognized researchers and writers on both sides of the UFO controversy. Compelling. Engaging.

Originally suggested for the Young Adult (high school) audience, Extraterrestrial Life is surprisingly in-depth and highly recommended for everyone intrigued by the UFO enigma or the possibilty of extraterrestrial life and possible visitations.

Greenhaven Press has another winner with Extraterrestrial Life.
