Rating: Summary: "What you can't see can kill you." Review: For three weeks, 17-year-old Gretchen Childs is responsible for baby-sitting 7-year-old Adam Wollman in his parent's mansion in Madison, California. Gretchen thinks it'll be a piece of cake. That is, until she realizes 1) Adam's psychic, and 2) he's in danger.A short time later her ex-boyfriend is found dead in the Wollmans' Jacuzzi--and she's the number one suspect for his murder. Now, not only are they on the run from the police, but Gretchen must protect Adam--as well as her friends--from a group of sorcerers that want to exploit Adam's gift in order to fulfill a centuries-old prophecy. The majority of the book takes place in the nearby woods, which gives the book an isolated, spooky feel. The ending is kind of left up in the air for a possible sequel (though there isn't one); but young fans of occult suspense should like this first book in the Baby-sitter's Nightmares series, as well as the other three: "The Evil Child" (#2) by M. C. Sumner, "Lights Out" (#3) by Bernard O'Keane, and "A Killer in the House" (#4) by J. H. Carroll.
