Rating: Summary: My Absolute Favorite... Review: After reading so many reviews, I am excited to see that the book that has forever touched my heart, has had as much meaning to others as it did for me. Everytime I mention to someone the title of this book, I get a quizzical look, but now I know there were others who found this book too. I first read it in 6th grade- the only book by this author- and I was intrigued and summoned to read it many times in just that one school year. I felt so lucky last year to find it in an obscure library at my University, and I loved reading it even as an adult. I truly believe that this book helped to mold my desire to work in the social work field and especially with youth who are going through such critical issues like the ones Claire experienced.

Rating: Summary: Simply Amazing Review: I first read this book when I was in jr. high. I fell in love with it and read it over and over again throughout the years. I was lucky enough to own a copy, at one time. I was a student teacher though, and my focus was young adult lit. I let one of my students borrow my copy and take it home, because she was having some difficulty with home/school and I thought it might touch her, although her situation wasn't violent, just tough to deal with. I'm both happy and sorry to say that I didn't end up getting my copy back. I'm happy because I hope that she was able to read it, and that it might touch her as it touched me. I'm sorry because I no longer have my copy. My oldest niece is just about the right age to be able to appreciate it, and I can't share it with her until I find another copy. I'll keep looking. Maybe I'll get lucky. But if anyone has any doubts about reading this, please don't hesitate. It's spectacular. Kudos to Ms. Culin... If your looking for a recommendatation... this is non-fiction, but also written well. "One Child" and it's sequel "The Tiger's Child" by Torey Hayden. It will definitely appeal to anyone who has a bit of an "educator" in them, as it's written by a teacher who faced a huge challenge with a very special, abused child.
Rating: Summary: ENGULFED BY FLAMES AND MY HEART Review: I first read this book when i was in the 5th grade, and although i was a little young to understand all of the concepts, it was my favorite book (this may have been because it was also my older sister's/my idol's favorite book). I probably read the book 3 times between my 5th grade and 7th grade years. In 7th grade, my house had a fire and "Cages of Glass, Flowers of time" was taken with it. Since that day, i have been trying to find that book. I am now 23, and finally found it in the Cincinnati Public Library. I wasn't sure if the book would be as wonderful as i originally thought, but of course, it was. I now hope to find a copy online so i can give my sister a christmas present that will mean as much to her as it does to me.
Rating: Summary: I still have and read my copy some 18 years later Review: I was going through my closet the other night looking for a book for my 16 year old niece to read. Along with the book I was trying to find for her, I rediscovered CAGES OF GLASS, FLOWERS OF TIME. After work today I reread this book (not that I have only read it once to begin with) Even after 18 years, I still get pulled into Claire's story. When I read this the first time at about 14 I cried at certain parts, realized I was very lucky to have the family I do and was inspired by the strength of Claire and the goodness of other people. The author did a fantastic job with this, a first novel. To still be pulled into a story, 18 years after I first read it, to be able to enjoy it after reading it numerous times is the mark of a truly well written novel. If you find this book, it is definatly worth a read. If you are a girl anywhere between 12 and 15, I guarentee you will enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: Cages of Glass, Flowers of Time Review: I'm 26 years old now and I was in middle school when I read this book I moved away from the state I lived in but for some reason that book has haunted me ever since. I've gone everywhere Borders, Books A Million, you name it I've looked for it there and asked if they could order it. No one could ever locate it. Well I've finally found it and I feel like I've been reunited with an old friend! That book made such an influence on me as a young teen, my parents weren't even alcholic's. But now I have a son going on 9 and I will be sure he will read it when he gets alittle older. And any of my friends that love to read. It may be a youth teen book but I'm quite sure it will touch anyone that has a heart. Good luck finding it, but it is well worth the effort! Happy reading!!!
Rating: Summary: WOW! Review: It amazes me how many were affected by this book...I read it when I was in 7th grade and have never forgotten it...As has a lot of other people. I have only read it that one time, but still remember most of the details. To me this book is the most unforgettable book I've ever read because I CAN remember it..And so does everyone else..It says something about the writer and the characters..I have been searching for a copy in libraries and resale shops with no luck until I found it here..unfortunately it was alittle steep in price with being out of print..Maybe I'll get it for my b-day! :) Everyone enjoy and let's not forget it!
Rating: Summary: Cages of Glass, Flowers of Time Review: Like so many of the reviewers, I first read this book in middle school and read it at least every year after that. Isn't that amazing! I don't think I've been touched so much by a story ever. The way the author writes the main character is fabulous. You really get into her mind and see where she is coming from. If you can find this book keep it and treasure it. I am lucky, my best friend remembered how much I loved this book and found me a copy. I think we should petition the publisher to reprint it. It's what story telling is all about!
