Summary: Ready for the GOOF movie
Review: I am an inveterate bookstore browser who is not beyond judging and buying books solely on their covers. Needless to say, Sean Enright's Goof and Other Stories, prominently displayed in the "New Writers" section of my local bookstore, caught my eye. Here is a well-fed boy maybe 10 or 12 years old, proudly holding a baseball that he might have hit over a fence, but more likely caught at an Orioles game. Here is a great cover. True to its initial impression, Goof and Other Stories is also great. Digby Shaw, Goof's main character and narrator, is a robust, intelligent, Catholic-educated and disciplined boy who is perpetually hungry and outwardly adorable (earnest entrant in science fairs and school plays, polite to his elders). In actuality, he is at that point in life when every impulse and decision is most certainly all good or all bad. You can guess which way Digby is inclined. Consequences abound and the book is consistently funny and endearing. Goof, if short, is especially well written. Enright's prose is at times so poignant and well crafted that it reads like pure open verse. I bought Goof upon finishing Irving's A Widow for One Year. Understandably, I was looking for something fun and Goof certainly delivered. It is making the rounds in my family and I doubt I'll see my copy back before Labor Day. Buy it.

Summary: A great read
Review: What a delightful book! Very amusing. If you are a product of the parochial school system (or even a former adolescent) you'll be able to relate to narrator Digby Shaw's growing pains. Want to understand the inner workings of a teenage boy's mind? Then look no further; this is the book for you. Author Sean Enright's tales are entertaining, insightful and comic. I'm eager to see what the future holds for this bright new talent.

Summary: Ready for the GOOF movie
Review: Who is Sean Enright because I would like to buy some of his stock. This guy is going places. GOOF is popping up in every bookstore and is selling fast for good reasons. This book is an absolut riot and and a must read for any knuckle busted, paddled, gummied nose stuck to the blackboard catholic boy. Goof brought back so many great memories and made me laugh. I'm ready for the GOOF part two.
