Rating: Summary: A compelling fantasy-adventure for young adults Review: I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of writing in this book, which features plenty of martial arts action. The futuristic story of young Qwan, separated from his family amidst the horrors of World War III, is both compelling and exciting, with timely themes of race and identity smouldering beneath the surface. A must read for young adults interested in action/adventure!
Rating: Summary: A good action book Review: The book Qwan is about a 13 year old boy named Qwan who survives a nuclear war. It is the year 2017, five years after a masssive war wipes out most of the US. Qwan was separated from his parents during the war when he and his brother were taken to the desert so they would be safe from the war. As things got worse, Qwan's brother deserts him. Qwan survives by using his karate skills and by having a good friend, Billy.Qwan and Billy decide to travel south to their homes. Along the way, they wander into the town of Talima. The town is deserted except for a mysterious group called the tribe. Here Qwan finds his older brother and faces him in the battle of his life. The book was exciting and fun to read. I would recommend this book to kids between 10 and 13 years old who like karate. On a scale from one to ten, I rate this a 7.
