Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Unique
Review: Great book for when going through the transformation to adolescence. Although there is distinct language, it is very funny. I read it when I was
first 13, now I'm 22 and I can't stop reading it at least every two years.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great book unless you're a prude
Review: I bought a copy of this about 20 years ago, when I was 13. My mom picked up it, flipped through a few pages, and spotted some of the dirty language and jokes it contains. She dismissed it as a "crotch novel" but allowed me to read it.

I re-read this one at least once a year and have done so for the last 20 years. It is so much more than a crotch novel!

Not for the faint of heart: these characters are 14 years old but talk filthy, drink, steal, lie, have sex (or talk about it a lot) and do all of the things most people think young girls shouldn't do (but end up doing at some point anyway). You'll grow to love every one of them, especially Sonny, the book's protagonist. Sonny is smart, funny, awkward, alternately shy and obnoxious and will take you back to that time in your life when you thought your world was going to end because your breasts didn't develop fast enough. Author Pilcer captures it honestly and unsparingly.

Bittersweet! Cynical! Honest!

My copy is so well-thumbed that I no longer loan it to anybody, for fear it will fall apart and I won't get it back. Out of print but well worth tracking down a copy! And not just for teens, either.

Summary: "a junior wanderers for the push up bra set"
Review: i read this book when it came out in paperback form over twenty some odd years ago and its still as fresh in my memory as if i read it yesterday.
teen angel was a wonderful and exciting book and i never understood why it wasnt made into a great 'early 60's coming of age serio-comedy about teen girls in the inner city' movie....i mean richard price's the wanderers had been made into a great movie in 1979 and i think teen angel would have become a classic as well.
hell, it was about an all girl gang in new york city in 1964,they had satin jackets, teased hair and attitude and if i remember correctly, they were in junior high for petes sake!
to speak nothing of the charecters; the gooch, reuben ortega, handy
and all the rest,it was just a really great yet unassuming novel.
the charecters i cared about,as with the wanderers, they were genuine and heartfelt and yes damn it,it would have made a great movie,as there arnt enough movies like this about and for women and im a guy!
if sonia pilcer happens to read this;bravo to you,you wrote a classic and i only hope it gets a re-issue in its twentyfifth year in exsistence.
sincerly and greasily yours,J.S.DICE.

Review: Okay. So I really love this book. I remember reading it in eight grade and not being able to put it down and now almost fifteen years later I still enjoy the book. If you like Judy Blume you'll love Pilcer's Teen Angel!
