Description:
A companion book to Bill James's Major League Handbook, the Minor League Handbook 1999 provides career statistics for every player who appeared in the Double-A or Triple-A in 1998 (except those who appeared in the majors) and 1998 stats for players in lower leagues. The book also includes team stats, leader boards (improved since the 1998 edition with expanded categories), and various other statistical analyses. Of particular interest is a section about the "major-league equivalencies" for the top minor-league hitters. (Developed by James, the equivalencies translate a hitter's minor-league numbers into what they would have looked like in the majors, using a variety of factors.) This is an invaluable guide for serious minor-league baseball fans. --Andy Boynton
