Rating: Summary: An Aid to Recreation and Sport Planning Review: This is a comprehensive guide to the many considerations that need to be taken into account when planning to meet the recreation, sporting and leisure demands of all sections of the community. It covers urban, rural and coastal recreation and sport planning. It looks at the whole process from consulting the community to find out what they want, planning for the provision of open space to meet those needs, and through to the design, and management of facilities required. The Manual is an excellent guide for new communities just being developed from greenfields, and for established areas looking to reflect changes in community needs. It is sufficiently simple in layout and text to guide the inexperienced and detailed enough to be a useful checklist for the more experienced planner. Mr Daly shows a good appreciation of the diversity of community demands for recreation. The appendix showing dimensions of sporting facilities is a most useful reference. This manual does not provide all the answers in this emerging and most complex of planning fields, but it does enough to show that due attention to recreation and sport planning will greatly enhance the quality of life of the individual and of the community.
