One dark night

my Ford Fairlane climbed the hill's skull.

I watched for varmints. Lights turned low,

they munched together, side by side,

where the green fields shelve on the town . . .

I raised and fired.

The first one was blown to bits --

nothing left to recognize

or stuff and display -- but a better-placed

shot left a second with only a tiny

entry wound just below the left ear.

We ate varmint stew, washed it down with beer.
