Rating: Summary: He played the sportswriting game well Review: As a child one treat of mine was reading Grantland Rice's sport columns. One of the first poems I ever wrote was about him. I think I was about eight . It was modeled on his verse. "Among the tumult and the shouting , a joyous cry arose, it rose above all others, with their joys and their woes/ a man of strength and courage/ a heart of gold was his/ wherever there is baseball/ Grandtland Rice's name will live./
I recommend reading these poems and in feeling the spirit of another time in America, a time of youthful hope and a certain innocence which the world has largely lost.
