Rating: Summary: The LPGA could do better! Review: As a golfer with some basic skills already under my belt, I found this book to be a disappointment. I was hoping for a book which would both show fundamentals and help beginning/intermediate golfers improve their game. This book does not accomplish that goal. I found the "great shots that I remember" to be simple filler--read one or two and you've read them all--and the strategy sections to be only slightly better. In those two areas, there was far too much generic commentary, as in "Consistency is key to becoming a good golfer. I think I was fortunate to have been taught the basic fundamentals" (you'd think Karrie Webb would have more to say!) The one aspect of this book that pleased me was the photography. The numerous photos of a wide variety of women were helpful, especially in comparing body types, differences in alignment for different shots, and such. If you are a complete beginner to the game of golf, you should find this book useful. If you've played before and/or had a lesson or two, I highly recommend Power Golf for Women, by Jane Horn. That's THE book to help women improve their golf game.
Rating: Summary: The LPGA could do better! Review: I've read many golf books and encouraged many women golfers to stay with the game. That's why I'm very confident in recommending that this is the one book every woman should have in her golf library. Each chapter, using large photos and clear text, describes a different shot and is written by both a LPGA tour professional and a LPGA teaching professional. Shots covered include the basics like putts and chips and some harder shots like down-hill lies and even hooks and slices. The instructional format is a winning combination for every golfer -- men included. Although over thirty great women golfers contributed to the book, terms are used consistently throughout. It's like having thirty great teachers thinking and talking like one in your very own private lesson. Many women will relate to the final chapter by Nancy Lopez and Lorie Kane on "Life and Golf."
