Rating: Summary: A unique how-to book, written with intelligence and wit. Review: I am a novice fly fisherman. The Reasonable Art of Fly Fishing is both a practical how-to book and a scholarly essay on the pleasures, history, and absurdities of fly fishing. Terry Mort demonstrates a thoughtful, intelligent knowledge of the subject. He obviously loves fly fishing and wishes to share his love with everyone. I had the feeling that I would like to spend time with the author. He would be a wonderful coach and a fantastic person to converse with when the fishing was done for the day. This book is different from most how-to books I've seen. It has a minimum of jargon, and no photos or diagrams. It is a thinking person's introduction to fly fishing. Terry Mort doesn't talk down to the reader. He credits the reader with a great deal of intelligence and education. Chapters cover the basics; equipment selection, casting, fly selection, reading water. Each somehow says it differently than the other how-to books I've read. He simplifies and clarifies. I would recommend the book to anyone with curiosity about this sport.
