Rating: Summary: Exactly what I needed Review: After reading through this book, it is clear that it is just what I needed. While running, I usually begin to experience fatigue in my muscles as opposed to my lungs. This book has very good strategies and tips on how to improve muscular endurance- which is exactly what runners need. My leg muscles as well as my upper body muscles have become more durable and I'm able to last much longer without getting tired. The programs in the front of the book provide a tremendous starting point for my weight training. This is a guide, that I recommend to all runners.
Rating: Summary: Totally worthless for the experienced wightlifter. Review: For someone who has never lifted weights before, this book will be of assistance. For an experienced weight lifter, this book is totally worthless. All it talks about is "High Reps, Low Weight" for endurance. Any experienced weight lifter already knows that. There are no special exercises for runners, just standard weight-lifting routines. Plus, I had some problems with some of the exercises: 1) It recommends the "Hurdler's Stretch", a move proven to cause problems with the opposite knee. 2) It recommends the "Lat Press Behind Shoulders", a move proven to cause shoulder problems. 3) It recommends the Deadlift as a Hamstring exercise, but illustrates the Romanian Deadlift, which emphasises the lower back, and puts only secondary stress on the Hamstrings. If you want to work the hamstrings with a deadlift move, use Stiff-legged Deadlifts. So, if you've never lifted weights before, this book will come in very handy. If you have lifted wieghts and are looking for something more specific to your running muscles, I cannot recommend this book.

Rating: Summary: Exactly what I needed Review: Other than the title, this book has NOTHING to do with running. It has no specific exercises for runners. The author has 33 books titled "The Ultimate Guide to xxxxxxing". Check out the reviews of these other books on Amazon. You can see that all the books are the same and have nothing to do with the individual sport. Even for a general weight training guide, it is fairly basic and generic. Most people agree that this book is pretty much a RIPOFF. Mine is being returned ASAP.
