Rating: Summary: Unsung Heroes Review: I have always loved the game of baseball. The subtle intricacies, the speed, and the skill of the players. However, my favorite aspect of the sport is its incredible complexity. While the manager is mostly responsible for the strategy in today's game, in the past the catcher was the man in charge. This book covers all the greats, from Bill Dickey to Johnny Bench, with many more in between. They take a look at promising catchers of today like Ivan Rodriguez and Mike Piazza as well. If you have any interest in the backstops of baseball, you will most likely enjoy this book. While catchers don't always get their due, they are an integral part of a successful baseball team, and this book takes a look at the best. The book is well written and concise, but don't let that mislead you. I don't want to imply that the book is childish or "light". Quite the opposite in fact. This book takes a good hard look at what I feel is the most involved position in the great game of baseball. I would heartily recommend this book to anyone.
