Rating: Summary: 50 Years is not enough! Review: Ben D. Mahaffey'd book, Fifty Years of Hunting and Fishing, will be a delight for any sportman who has stalked the "mulies" or felt the tug of a 40 lb. salmon at the end of their line. Mahaffey's experiences are both humorous and heart wrenching in this some what auto-biographical homeage to a way of life that is rapidly fading from Americana. This collection of short stories spans five decades of hunting and fishing experiences throughout America. It was particularly amusing to read about the evolution of hunting and fishing gear in the last 50 years. Mahaffeys appreciation for things we take for granted today (gortex, 4-wheel drive, all terrain vehicles, etc.) adds a uniquely historical perspective to his stories. I particularly liked the "30.06 Dog" story and genuinely hope Mr. Mahaffey finds another dog as good as that one! Mr. Mahaffey writing style is reminiscent of Pat McManus, a mainstay of hunting and fishing magazines for decades. Humor, values, and an amazing perspective of a man who, for fifty years, pursued his passion for hunting and fishing, will make this book a fun read for sportspersons and non-sportspersons alike. I can't wait to read about the next fifty years!
