Summary: Recommended for those who enjoy the outdoors
Review: Hunting From Home: A Year Afield In The Blue Ridge Mountains by Christopher Camuto is a engaging and personal memoir of hunting and fishing afield in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Written with a passionate love of, and respect for, the beauty and providence of Nature; the satisfaction of enjoying a "border life"; and offering deeply insightful thoughts on man's relationship to the natural world and his role in claiming subsistence from it without being wasteful, Hunting From Home is an engaging read and strongly recommended for those who enjoy what the outdoors has to offer, as well as "armchair travelers" through the grand hunting grounds of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Summary: Lovely nature writing
Review: Mr. camuto's book is pretty good. His command and usage of the english language in describing his naturalist surroundings is excellent indeed. While his lifestyle is not for everyone. His learned understanding of universal wholeness,as a result,is very needed.
His book has chapters and sentences which captures the very nature of our outdoor world. The book itself tends to lack a true storyline and comes across somewhat fragmented. Almost whimsical at times.
I do think Mr. Camuto " gets it" and could be right on the verge of a true literary breakthrough.

Summary: Hunting from home or fishing or looking at trees from home?!
Review: The title of the book is deceiving. I purchased the book thinking it was about hunting. Shame on me for not reading any on-line reviews first. I purchased the book at a book store while on vacation and was looking for a good read on large game hunting and bird hunting. The book was more focused on fishing in Russia and the Blue Ridge Mountains and how he (Chris Camuto) watched and heard the logging trucks thin out an area that he liked to hike into and camp for a few days. If you like to read about HUNTING!!!!!! DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!!!

Summary: Lovely nature writing
Review: This is a beautifully written book. Camuto is a modern Thoreau in that, though incredibly knowledgeable about the natural world (he knows an amazing amount about trees, flowers, birds etc.) he also has a great deal to say about life, politics, literature, ethics, all the important subjects. This is a book that will get you thinking about the way you live your life in a whole different way, and provokes interesting questions about where we humans fit in the natural scheme of things. Reading it is like a visit with an interesting person and a refreshing walk in the woods.
