Rating: Summary: Well-written and clearly illustrated Review: This manual is very well-written and has many photographs clearly illustrating various steps in the process. Although it is essentially a how-to manual, it is also an enjoyable read since the author's dryly witty observations are woven into the more technical instructions.
Rating: Summary: A Fun (!) How-To Book Review: While most how-to manuals are usually dry and boring, the author of "Poor Man's Scout Rifle" peppered the text with witty remarks and interesting anecdotes. I found myself chuckling while I read his barbs directed at everything from politicians to the French. You learn how to build a scout rifle from various bolt-action rifles as well as newer semi-autos, such as the Mini-14, M1 Garand, and the SKS. In addition to the how-to build sections, each chapter contains a brief history of the rifle which is interesting to us history buffs. Also included is a chapter about ammunition selection and a chapter on the lost art of sling-shooting. If you enjoy the shooting sports then you will definitely enjoy this book.
